If you want an example, take the Apocalypse. Poor St. John saw this incredible vision, and he had to put it into words. Because of the limitation of language, the Book of Revelation is vague, to say the least. He had to put everything into material terms. Did he really see "four horsemen"? Were the flames associated with "wormwood" really the flames from the Chernobyl meltdown? We don't know. All we have to go with is a book full of abstract, wonderful, and sometimes downright terrifying images. Because of St. John's close relationship with Christ, we can conclude that what he wrote in the Apocalypse is true. But it remains one of the most disputed books in history.
