themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (panic!: ryan's legs)
so, I am sort of mucking around in an android-fantasy-slash-cyberpunk-slash-something-else (slash bandom) AU, uh. and it's a little bit epically huge in my brain, surrounding politics and love and gender theory and queer theory and "human" nature and um. did I mention the robots? so anyway.

while I do not imagine this will ever exit my head in a fully cohesive, sculpted story (because that would be, like, novel-length and while loving my brain I also recognize that it has simply not been wired for that sort of extended attention span), I will hopefully be throwing down some chunks o' 'verse in the kinda-near future, and I would like those to be as accurate and well-considered as possible.

my [re]reading/[re]viewing list includes: Asimov, early 80's cyberpunk, The Cyborg Manifesto (which I think/reallyhope I still have in a binder somewhere?), and also some movies. to be fair I only started constructing said list last night. but the important part of this post is, hi flist! what would you add?

[ps - miscellany/ohai uncanny valley!: while nosing around I also hit these videos of the HRP-4C Gynoid (fashion fembot) and the ever-exciting (while also a bit unsettling) CB2 Child Robot. iiiifff you haven't seen these, they are pretty freaking mindblowing. check it.]

[pps - fuck you very much, [livejournal.com profile] iceyrica.]

(and their brains. and my brain. AND THE WAY OUR BRAINS WORK TOGETHER.)

quick note: I was looking at this site (Meg Andrews' reproductions), at which I had arrived via this site (Dressing History, by Serena), and uh. this happened.

I said: so you know that early 19th century short jacket called a spencer?
I said: my brain loves me SO MUCH that it gave me a picture of Spencer Smith IN a spencer ...
I said: and now I have to come up with some ridic 1820s AU.
she said: oh god
she said: that is kind of awesome
I said: KNOWING ME IT WILL INVOLVE SOMETHING DUMB LIKE THE ROYAL MFING NAVY
I said: ohgod ohgod ohgod Brendon's ASS in those BREECHES. shit.
she said: *cough*
she said: oh god Mel
she said: Middie Love with panics!
she said: brendon in Hornblower AU
she said: snuggling with Archie in a hammock
I said: n'awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!
she said: :-)
I said: (I am trying to figure out by what method of shenanigans I can get Spencer Smith to crossdress)
she said: genderswap
I said: SPENCER SMITH THE NOBLEMAN'S DAUGHTER?
she said: bwahahaha
she said: robbed by Billiam and Gabe gentleman highwaymen
I said: ARE YOU SUGGESTING I WRITE A BODICERIPPER?
she said: YES
she said: YES MEL I AM
I said: OMG.
I said: I WILL GET RIGHT ON THAT, I WILL
she said: YES please

Title: Grand Theft Autumn/Where Is Your Boy?
Fandom: bandslash – My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy
Pairing: Pete/Mikey
Rating: mature
Length: 2,057 words
Summary: Operation Mikey Way: Love Overload
Warnings: very light bondage (handcuffs)

[livejournal.com profile] sansets thought that Mikey Way should be put in handcuffs and loved a lot. I agreed. So did Pete? Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] fairestcat for the beta, help with canon, and general awesomeness! Title by Fall Out Boy.

The first time Pete told Mikey Way that he was beautiful, it was bullshit.

[livejournal.com profile] __dtrain, I'm sorry I didn't write in more porn.

Title: Baby, It's Cold Outside
Fandom: Numb3rs x Northern Exposure
Pairing: Don/Joel
Rating: Mature for adult sexual content. And language! And crack :D
Length: 2,350 words
Summary: Joel closed the door. "This is … this is really … weird."
Warnings: Never piss off a moose? Also, possible Rob Morrow Overload.
Disclaimer: Neither of these shows are mine. And there was much rejoicing.
Notes: The usual suspects, [livejournal.com profile] __dtrain and [livejournal.com profile] phurie_dae listened to me yammer about this and let me spam them. [livejournal.com profile] jobiegirl6 and [livejournal.com profile] shrieking_ell also got in on the game. You're all fantastic!
AND HEY. If you want the first four episodes of Northern Exposure all in one 700-MB .avi, I've got that here. It was kind of an accident.

( DON IS REALLY HOT AND JOEL IS A DORKFACE THE END )

ALSO, [livejournal.com profile] captain_molly, thank you so much for the paid time, and the icons, and the mistletoe! .:: smooches ::. you're such a sweetheart :)
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (numb3rs: colby badge)
sometimes, you're working on number theory, and you just have to take a break and type up the ridiculous conversation that David and Colby were having in the back of your head while you were trying to prove Gauss's generalization of Wilson's theorem (which, in case anyone's wondering, I totally can't do).

Dirty Rascals 1.5? The point is that David/Colby is just, like, a fact. )

Public Service Announcement:

"writing extended segments of story in the past perfect tense" officially falls under the header of really annoying things to do with prose.

*headdesk*
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (numb3rs: charlie pwn't)
most recent outcome of the "Get It Right Or Die Trying" method of researching random shit (ridiculously peripheral details) for the sake of other random shit (fiction/tangential essay points/RP/off-the-cuff argument/etc.), this time in the realm of Numb3rs:

OK so what, exactly, gets the L.A. FBI office's attention?

(and on a less heartening note: FBI LA needs a grammar teacher.)

ETA: totally making this a Dump Post for at least the FBI part of Numb3rs--

Title: The Demoted Commodore Sketch
Author: [livejournal.com profile] meletor_et_al
Summary: Jack is unsatisfied with a purchase.
Characters/Pairings: Cranky!Jack, Unnamed!Disney!Entity, Norrington. Inklings of J/N, passing mention of N/E.
Rating: PG - PG-13 for language, I imagine.
Warning: **Food And Drink Alert** (i.e. eat/drink and read at your own risk)
Note: Lest we forget that my brain is most certainly made of crack. Apologies to Monty Python.

Unbetaed, as I couldn't bring myself to subject anyone to it.

( I wish to make a complaint! )
Fake cut goes to my fic LJ.

FIC! for, yanno, those who haven't been spammed already. AND THOSE WHO HAVE!

Title: Banging Away
Summary: Be careful what you rant about; it might come true.
Characters/Pairings: Jack/James/Will, Elizabeth throwing a fit, implied W/E, past N/E, suspected J/E, and some swords.
Rating: R+ (somewhat dodgy smut, no lemon)
Length: 1,353 words
Thanks to: [livejournal.com profile] british_pickle and [livejournal.com profile] __dtrain for early readthroughs; [livejournal.com profile] shrieking_ell for officially making sure my allergic, murky condition had caused no injury to my writing. Or for telling me where it had *g*
Warnings: Aforementioned congested allergy-brain, dice ex machina, DMC SPOILERS!
AN: Rather crack. Also, porn! For [livejournal.com profile] johanirae, who requested it. Also for [livejournal.com profile] ofdreamsnbones, who wanted to know how the dice game works (this is a combination of what I observed in the film, read in the official 'Pirate Dice' game rules, and experienced while playing with various people except the naked bit at the end; that's all Jack's fault).

( "I don't see how she could intend what you are doubtless considering, especially since two of the three men present were once *engaged* to her…" )
Fake cut goes to my fic LJ.

[16:45] [livejournal.com profile] meletor_et_al: god my prose is dense, what the hell?
[16:45] [livejournal.com profile] shrieking_ell: dense in a good way, like well-made brownies
[16:45] [livejournal.com profile] shrieking_ell: or a good chocolate torte
[16:45] [livejournal.com profile] meletor_et_al: really? right now I'm feeling it more like walking through a narrow cave webbed with spaghetti.
[16:46] [livejournal.com profile] shrieking_ell: fascinating analogy

You Are Chocolate Ice Cream

You have a flair for the dramatic and love to party.
Your personality is super strong and unique.
Many people crave you constantly - while you turn a few off.

You are most compatible with coffee ice cream.

YAY! -- note to self: email [livejournal.com profile] xzombiexkittenx although if [livejournal.com profile] xzombiexkittenx reads this before you manage to remember to e-mail then OMG SORRY I'LL GET IT DONE ASAP AND THIS IS THE FIRST FIC THING I'VE WRITTEN SINCE FOREVER SO I AM SO EXCITED OMG ... gah, I'm a failure sometimes, no?

[livejournal.com profile] __dtrain reminded me that I signed up for James Norrington on [livejournal.com profile] psych_30, and look here's my table.

doesn't that just look like tons of fun? I'm super-excited, when I can remember to be :p

EURGH, NOSEBLEED. ALSO COLD SORES.

oh, springtime, we love you so damned much. yes. >_____<

however, before the STUPID weather-induced nasal hemorrhaging, I was getting back into writing ... yep ... Straw Men. technically, the prequel piece. so that's ... sitting in MS Word at like 3,500-4,000 words and. might actually (touch wood) get done before the end of spring break.

I'm also trying to see how long/successfully I can go without my Concerta. I'd like to learn to function passably without it, not because I'm against medicating, but because if I do forget to take my meds some day I don't want to be caught out. so ... yes. ok.
