(no subject)

I owe y'all an account of Arizona, so here y'go.

First thing is I had to get up at 4 in the morning to make it to the airport by 5:25 so I could catch my 6:25 flight. That all went decently, except the security checkpoint people made me take off my shoes (pink canvas sneakers with 3-4 inch wedge heels) and put them through the xray dealie as well. Pfft. Yet, despite the impending yick (it was inauguration day-- I had in face run out at 11:30 the night before to buy a calling card so I -wouldn't- be buying one on Not One Damn Dime day), the flight from Milwaukee to Minneapolis went well. I was on the aisle, and the 2 seats next to me were open. Decided, f*** Bush, I'm reading Dorian Gray. It was a nice little point of rebellion, to read gay lit while just a few states away The Nukemeister is prepping for another 4 years (*GAH!*).

Landed in MN, got to my gate, heard voices. Looked up, saw tv playing CNN. Watched, with that same sick fascination that makes a child pull open a cut just as the bleeding's beginning to stop. Heard / read in the closed captioning something about Bush "continuing his expansionist policies" ... or similar. I think that is when I really started to cry. I'd been looking nauseously at the tv before then, and keeping composure, but at that moment I didn't care who saw me, and I just started to cry. There is, however, nothing like a good dose of despair to get one ficcing, so I whipped out a notepad and scrawled "Our Dear Tyrant" across it to remind me to write some more Existentialism-verse when I was on the plane and done being childish.

Which reminds me, I have PLANS for that 'verse. Plans that, actually, either fortunately or un, involve breaking the piece away from fandom and taking it seriously as a political commentary. ...Only now, as I type out that intention, it scares the bajeezers out of me and meep I don't know for sure, because I still like the pirate v. terrorist thing, but the point is I need a QCT (Quality Control Team) beyond my usual. So, if there's anyone who's got a decent handle on American Politics Today and/or the English language and would like to lend a few braincells, let me know. Pleeease.

So, as you can probably assume, I wrote Existentialism-verse on the plane. 5 pages of it. Just need to type it now, and send it through a QCT. And figure out what I'm going to do with it. And that was the plane ride to Arizona.

So, got off the plane, and it was more than 70 F. Keep in mind, in both WI and MN, we had to have the plane de-iced and anti-iced before taking off. Needless to say, I had weatherlag. But don't worry, it didn't stay 70 and sunny for long. The next day, it rained. It rained, it rained, it rained. But I'll tell you, it was the best rainy day in completely inappropriate shoes and a scarily big college campus that I've ever had. Because I met [livejournal.com profile] mme_of_achilles, and we just walked, and chatted, and had a complete and total blast.
So to her I say: I, dear, am better than ever. My feet hurt and my back hurts and I have blisters for the first time ever and my finger's still mad at me for the cactus yesterday morning, but it was all worth it. I swore to myself back when I first called you that some day I would come see you, but I didn't honestly think it would happen. Certainly not before I'd moved out of the house. However... it did work out. It all worked out. Even the rain. And the basements... and the yawning. I can still barely believe any of it happened, that it wasn't some too-good-to-be-true dream. But... it did happen. And... it was wonderful.

Then... yeah. Nothing else really sticks in my mind, after that, probably because all I was thinking of for the rest of the trip was how fantastic that one afternoon had been.

And... this is a really long entry. Like... wow. Sorry.

Oh, D-M, Vivs got a bunch of Libera!! Let me know if you want it e-mailed over!

poor thing - I'm pissed enough about GWB but I can't imagine anything more disenheartening than the prospect of living under his leadership for the next 4 years.

and I always have my stack shoes checked at airports too. The only thing I obessively check before my holidays these days is that I'm travelling in matching socks without cartoons on them.

so glad you had fun - we should find a mini island inbetween our homes to meet up and drink coffee at. how's the Falklands sound?

[identity profile] meletor-et-al.livejournal.com 2005-01-23 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
*sigh* yeah... hence the political-commentary-ventficcing. And... yeah. Not excited about the 4 more years of oppression thing.

Heh. My socks never match anyway. Hell, I don't care what people think about my socks. The more I can wierd them out the better. What, they going to think I'm a terrorist for having sparkly kitties on one sock and neon-colored helms' wheels on the other?

Hm... yes we should. Sounds cool to me; I've been looking for a February travel idea.

it is unfortunately prohobitively expensive. shame there isn't really much inbween us but water.
where's your nearest airport?

or we could both get dingies and start rowing?

[identity profile] meletor-et-al.livejournal.com 2005-01-23 01:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Well there's half the US between us as well. I live in the midwest. But maybe... I could row/sail through the Great Lakes and et cetera. Yep. Sounds like a plan.

[identity profile] daughtermestizo.livejournal.com 2005-01-23 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Do I? DO I What a stupid question!!!

*cough* Sorry, very sorry. Forgive me. Just....desperate....

Please send them! And let her know I've got a multitude of mp3s on my comp if she's looking for any songs in particular. You too, by the way.

[identity profile] daughtermestizo.livejournal.com 2005-01-23 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't worry. If it breaks again, it's okay. I just found a website that has the entire Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles soundtrack for download, so I'm VERY well provided for at the moment. You MUST hear the song Kazenone! It's so pretty! Very, very pretty!

[identity profile] mme-of-achilles.livejournal.com 2005-01-23 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry about the blisters? Dare I ask about the cactus? Glad you liked the basements and I'm so glad I got to see you. That's all that matters.

[identity profile] meletor-et-al.livejournal.com 2005-01-23 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't be; I blame the shoes and my own doltishness. I was overenthusiastic at Sonora Desert Museum and paid the price. Yeah basements and you're right, what matters is that we got to see eachother. ^_^!!

[identity profile] mme-of-achilles.livejournal.com 2005-01-23 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Was the mama mountain lion in her window? Please tell me she was.. and the other cats.

[identity profile] meletor-et-al.livejournal.com 2005-01-23 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
She was. 2 cats in the window, both showing off right in front of the glass.

(the otters were showing off too)

Oh, and the trivia fact you told me about the old student union and the belltower? Got me a pair of jammie pants. n.n

[identity profile] mme-of-achilles.livejournal.com 2005-01-23 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I told you they'd be shoin off especially the mountain lion she lives for it.

As for getting you free clothing. How'd I pull that off?

[identity profile] meletor-et-al.livejournal.com 2005-01-23 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, you were right. It was very cool.

There was a trivia game Friday night, and one of the questions was "name something interesting about the student union". I said that it had the same belltower from the old one, and won a pair of pyjama pants.
