apparently everyone else had picked this up from spoilers. I, avoiding them, kind of shot myself in the foot (because I think if I'd had warning about James' death, and been prepared a little, I would have been able to enjoy the rest of the movie better. I know I'm a brat).
D: it was disastrous. and 'cos I've had my head in the sand about everything regarding James except trailers and pictures, I was totally blindsided. ow.
I read your immediate reactions post, just now, and I basically entirely agree and sympathize. I wanted to love the movie as truly and unconditionally -- though that does not mean non-critically -- as I did the first two, and maybe I will some day, when I'm done reeling, but ... the fact remains that a huge part of my personal joy in the Pirates world has been broken and taken away from me.
and lastly, not to dwell, but -- I can't believe BECKETT got the majestic, dramatic, ship-explody death.
