gnyarrrrrrr~

you guys.

I really really want to go to culinary school instead of spending oodles of money stubbornly finishing an english degree that I will probably only use to pay for culinary school, if that. :/

(I do want to finish said degree, eventually, but OMG CULINARY SCHOOL.)

more on this angst later. work now :)

I was in pre-nursing last year...but my real passion is food. This yea I'm in Culinary school (for me it's a year program, so I'l halfway done) and I'm really REALLY loving it.

[identity profile] meletor-et-al.livejournal.com 2008-12-17 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
*nod nod* I just, I've wanted this since I was little. like, more than writing, more than teaching, more than *anything*. and tbh, watching you go for yours has kind of also made me wonder, "why not going for it, mel?"

Although be prepared to suffer the consequences (ie cuts and burns). I got 2nd degree burns on my wrist from my exam last week!

[identity profile] meletor-et-al.livejournal.com 2008-12-21 12:27 am (UTC)(link)

If what you really want is to be a professional chef, go for it!

But make sure you know what you're signing up for before you decide. I'm pretty sure [livejournal.com profile] pir8fancier would be willing to talk about her experiences. She used to be a professional pastry chef and could give you some good info on what you'd be letting yourself in for.

*nod* I know it's going to be a lot of work and a HARD ROAD, which is why this is definitely not a decision I'm taking lightly. thanks for the advice!

I recommend skipping finishing the English degree and going for culinary school. It's what you love, you're good at it and it makes you ridiculously happy.

thank you for the support. ♥

And you know what the nice part about school is? There is usually a pretty generous amount of time before you have to retake classes, so you should have plenty of time to give the culinary thing a try without having to worry. (Also, dude - FOOD. ♥)

[identity profile] meletor-et-al.livejournal.com 2008-12-17 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
it's truuuuue. part of what's weighing into my decision right now though it also whether I want to be stubborn and finish my degree AT BOWDOIN -- because it'll be significantly harder to do that if I take several years off to do cul. school.

ugh, money. so stupid.

(AND I AGREE. FOOD. ♥_♥)

If you can envision yourself totally getting a career in culinary... why not? Very in demand field!

[identity profile] meletor-et-al.livejournal.com 2008-12-17 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
I can totally envision that. and it's exciting. :D
