*yawn* hi. Batman!

This, I wrote on the Metra on the way back from Chicago. Some dude kept giving me funny looks, so I made it look like I was writing about him (you know, where you look at the person, kinda tut, write, still looking at them...) -- it was fun.

It is only a little, general-audiences drabble, the first in what will hopefully be a decently-sized lineup of semi(or fully)psychotic Batfic, though that cannot happen until I have binged given myself a refresher course on my Batman quasifangirlness.

Anyway, it's early, and I'm sure that all didn't make the least bit of sense. So.

That which a man fears, he comes to know intimately. He learns the way it moves, that he can dodge its approach. He studies its sound: its cry, its accidentals – even in the dark, he knows it. He knows what lures it; he knows what will send it away. He has watched it, fascinated by the pure cold power it has over him, immobilized by the vivid horrors his mind’s eye cannot stop creating. Given time, a man will know the object of his fear better than he knows his love, his family, his home, himself.

And so the Bat-Man.

It is also my ticket to allow myself to read the Flist-Haunting Lurk Zone [livejournal.com profile] wayne_crane. Finally.

Very nice drabble! i like this bit: fascinated by the pure cold power it has over him, immobilized by the vivid horrors his mind’s eye cannot stop creating. especially.

and so my obsession with the Bat-Man.

glad i have lurking company!

That is me with spiders. This is how I know. But I can so see wee!Bruce watching bats the same way... and That Is How He Knows.

oh, pray god I won't be lurking long!

Perhaps when I see the film I may be able to read this properly, without all the obsessive schoolgirly giggling about zombies :-(

Because it's really good, and I need my brain to stop jumping up & down shouting "Loook! It could be Jack & Zombies!!" because really, brain? That's not helpful. *scowls at brain* *brain hides and threatens to stop co-operating on sparrington fic* *lets brain come back out again and return to piratical contemplations*

[identity profile] meletor-et-al.livejournal.com 2005-07-08 01:45 pm (UTC)(link)
...You're hopeless. *heart*

-- brain, be good. we needs us some quality Tigg Sparrington.

Your piece explores a very animal feeling with a very human twist: fear with conscious pondering. I felt a cold, eerie stillness about when I read this.

Very nice, dear. When you get this sort of thing published, we'll talk about my beach house. <3.

I am in bad need of something to write. I really want to write some fiction, but I have no idea what to write it about. If you have any plot ideas, tell me. Right now all I can think of are interstellar hitchhikers and Stent.

...maybe I'll start doing H2G2 fanficcing.

[identity profile] meletor-et-al.livejournal.com 2005-07-08 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Stent!

where's that at, by the way? you should continue with it.

Max is glaring at me, but I'm dry for ideas.

Thank you very much. I really just went along with the BB 'fear' theme...

heh. okay!

[identity profile] ima-pseudonym.livejournal.com 2005-07-08 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)
1. Yay for the drabble! (brilliantly written, of course) Although.. I couldn't help thinking about Crane while I read this.. Just because of his whole obsession with fear, and such.

2. Chicago! *sighs* I would so give anything to go visit it, again.. Without a charter bus of annoying choir/band students.

3. I'm on wayne_crane, too! ^_^ *evil laugh* Although, to be honest, I'm mostly there for the 'Crane'. Jonathan rocks my socks.

[identity profile] meletor-et-al.livejournal.com 2005-07-08 01:57 pm (UTC)(link)
1. Thank you! Well, I wouldn't worry about that -- as soon as I finished writing, Crane popped up and went "hey! I said that!" ...and I said "hey! shut up! you get your own later!" ...but still.

2. <3 Chicago.

3. Mmm, mmhm. I still haven't read much there, because while I don't mind suspecting that I'm being unoriginal, I hate actually knowing it for sure. So until I get my current crop of ficishness out (2 more in the vein of "Fascination"), I can't bring myself to discover that I'm really not that clever after all.

...does that make any sense? No.

ANYWAY -- there's serious love here for both Wayne and Crane, but Crane is SO prettier. And often edges toward my favorite.

[identity profile] ima-pseudonym.livejournal.com 2005-07-08 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
We all know just how clever you are. Besides, there was a post, not too long ago, about all possible cliches for the pairing.. And it was, generally, agreed on that it's still much too early in the pairings' existence for anything to be unoriginal. You still have time to set the bar.

Oh, and I should probably tell you.. They all have an unnatural obsession with toasters... (at wayne_crane)

Mmmm.. insane/brilliant/evil doctor.. I just always have a thing for the bad guy. And those eyes!

[identity profile] meletor-et-al.livejournal.com 2005-07-09 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
yeah what's with the toaster thing anyway?

[identity profile] ima-pseudonym.livejournal.com 2005-07-09 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I never could figure that out.. I guess it's just a fun thing to say.
Toooh-sterrr.

[identity profile] captain-molly.livejournal.com 2005-07-08 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll have your ficlet either later or Sunday. ACK. Big fire outside of town has ebcome really important really fast. :( Sorry!!

[identity profile] meletor-et-al.livejournal.com 2005-07-08 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
eeeep! am praying for you! *hug*

[identity profile] xzombiexkittenx.livejournal.com 2005-07-08 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
1. Yay! Chicago.
2. You're even prettier in person.
3. SQUEE!

Nice trip inside Wayne's head. I am soososososo glad that you're writing in this fandom. *bounce* I have nothing insightful to say about this drabble, only that it has that same dark edge as the cinematography and the writing feels like the movie.

[identity profile] meletor-et-al.livejournal.com 2005-07-08 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
1. indeed.
2. pshht. I could, should, and do say the same.
3. eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee .::falls over::. a better compliment could not be had. this'll only be my second fandom, really, so I'm completely horrendously nervous and intimidated and *wibble* ... and in the middle of that OMG NEED FANDOM NOW mode... yes, the one that is telling me that, given tips today and under-budget spending yesterday I *would* have enough to skip down to the theater... anyway. what I meant to say was thank you, and I'm glad it worked. because, to hear so from you? major ego trip.

...ok, seriously, I wonder when the next showing is?

[identity profile] duckgirlie.livejournal.com 2005-07-08 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, I just discovered wayne_crane recently, (Thanks to the very talented [livejournal.com profile] fangirl_lizzie, and have found myself slightly addicted... And you have to love Cillian, and that's not just my occaisional burst of patriotism showing...
