All jetways into the gates at the Portland Jetport bear the same banner (and have since I first visited in November '04, and I agreed with it then too): "Welcome Home." Please excuse my happy sigh.
Today's schedule, in (kinda) short, was:
6:00 AM Wake up, pack
7:15 AM Feed dog, leave for park 'n' ride
7:55 AM Catch shuttle coach to O'Hare
10:10 AM Arrive, check in (wait in line, daydream about Red Eye because that's what makes airports not suck, wait more in line)
11:45 AM Get to gate, pull out reading for queer history midterm paper, laugh as people get minor neck injuries trying to make sure they're reading that title right (yes, it's Female Transvestism in Early Modern Europe. but Immodest Acts (The Life of a Lesbian Nun in Renaissance Italy) is much dirtier), wonder how so many bajillions of people understand Japanese. whoah. (the flight before mine was to Osaka)
1:10 PM Get on GINORMOUS plane (a 777, dudenesses), sleep through flight
4:15 PM Arrive at Dulles, find gate, pretend to work on midterm, resort to writing crossover!airplane!hitman!porn crazies, forget to pick up food of any sort
7:10 PM Get on TEENYWEENY PUDDLEJUMPER (totally forgot the model, but I know from memory it's the same one that makes the hop from Mitchell Int'l (Milw.) to O'Hare), chat with next-seat neighbour who also owes a Bowdoin midterm tomorrow, sleep through flight when possible (those puddlejumpers are spazzy, yo!)
8:45 PM Arrive at Portland Jetport, call da, meet George, finish call w/ da, get baggage, ride back to campus in George's father's batmobile (*snerk* -- he started it!), have interesting chat in which he pegs me as a Pirates fan without my mentioning a word of it. and then we squee about Paul Bettany.
10:00 PM Arrive HOME, FINALLY, Maine Dorm, Bowdoin College, Brunswick, ME
Random accounts of my stay at house, New Berlin, WI will probably pop up after I've battled this paper and the Econ exam and finally finished my ficathon piece and the B/D that I'm apparently on the hook for at
batslash.
sentiment d'escalier: he's the kind of guy who will pick you up in the airport when you've only just called about it that morning, and not say a word about the fact that you're wearing a paint-stained old sweatshirt, messy twice-napped-on hair, and a pair of your brother's baggiest jeans. and then he will lend you a TPB.
