this is so fucking cool.

(the story of David Chang (chef of Momofuku Ko in New York)'s signature dish, a soft-cooked egg with caviar. told in comic-book form and, seriously, so fucking cool. like, even if you don't care about this shit, it's really cool. really.)

tequila lime [tempeh] fajitas: being a record of the marinade maintained in a place where it actually can't get lost

juice of two limes (or one lemon)
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup agave (or honey)
2 tsp chili powder
2 tsp granulated garlic
2 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp black pepper
2-3 shots (seriously, jiggers, no skimping) tequila*

marinate food in this.**

then cook it and eat it!!!

*[p.s. this is where i get rid of my goddamn, my freaking durango bullshit that i bought for the margarita cupcakes and can't drink 'cause it's heinous. i guess if you wanted to use good tequila you could, but i'd save that for a congratulatory drink when you're eating your FREAKING AWESOME FAJITAS, MOTHERFUCKER. yeah.]

**where by food i mean chicken or tempeh (which is what i did) or beef i guess or seitan or maybe even shrimp or tilapia? as long as you're careful with those last two; don't kill them. just a couple minutes. half an hour or so for the rest, maybe an hour if you get distracted. whatever, it worked for me.

fucking AMAZING evening; best I've had in months.

in part, but only part, because I spent a solid twenty minutes talking to our kitchen manager about fucking chicken parm (ASIAN FUSION CHICKEN PARM; YES IT IS EPIC NO SHUT UP) -- and half an hour before that talking about how we are food geeks and how yes I am *exactly* the kind of crazy that wants to spend the rest of my life in this fucked-up, life-destroying, TRULY AMAZING and terrible industry.*

ugh, food.

and then I drove home in a thunderstorm :D

*and now I can't help thrilling at the idea that one of these days, between shifts, he'll take me into the kitchen and we'll raid the cooler and cook, and I'll learn things, because he is a STONE-COLD CLASSICALLY TRAINED TUSCAN CHEF.

HAPPY EARTH DAY!!!!!!!

here, have a green (and brown) delicious Earth Day soup recipe!

basically a variation on everybody's favorite potato and kale soup (caldo verde). not as good as [livejournal.com profile] fairestcat's (or, what I've heard about Cat's), but pretty freaking wicked and incidentally 100% vegan. omnomnom. try it! (btw, lentils aside (because they were free) this HUGE POT OF SOUP cost me a whopping $6.50. can you say frugal?)

recipe! )

also, TOMORROW IS EARTH DAY! KICK OFF YOUR SHOES! PLANT A TREE! I HAVE THE WHOLE DAY OFF; IT IS GOING TO BE SO AWESOME!!!

draaaaaaaama. or, at least, my version of it. surprise, it involves a) food, b) jobs, and c) weather. oh, also internet tv. and ryan ross.

first, storytime! yesterday I was SUPER CRANKY at the snow, because it meant I couldn't go in to Outpost to do my demoing and baking. well, guess what, I WENT IN ANYWAY. by mid-afternoon the weather had calmed down enough that I was able to drive out, do the baking (two tarts and five dozen cupcakes) and give Mom a tour of the store, and be home by 8. rockin! and I'm SO HAPPY I DID, because today was AMAZING. the gluten-free mini chocolate cupcakes were a HUGE HIT (and I made at least one little girl with celiac VERY HAPPY :D), and the brie-apple tarts got DEMOLISHED. I even had to run upstairs and print out more recipe cards halfway through the day, because so many people wanted to make it at home! and at LEAST half a dozen people asked to buy a premade tart, straight up. I was flattered, even though I could not actually sell the tart *g*

also, since [livejournal.com profile] phurie_dae coaxed me into watching it (twisted my arm. really.) I have TOTALLY FALLEN FOR BBC'S MERLIN. ugggggggh. BOYS~ and PLEASE, COME ON, SOMEBODY TRY AND TELL ME WEE!MERLIN IS *NOT* A CLONE OF RYAN ROSS. I DARE YOU. you guys, I need people to flail at about this show. message me.

thirdly, secret message for [livejournal.com profile] sansets: (I don't want to jinx anything because my desire to write has been rather fragile lately, along with my free time, but) GRETA AND LADY!BRENDON WILL NOT STOP MAKING OUT IN MY HEAD. IT'S VERY DISTRACTING. D:<

MOVING ON!

Apple and Brie Tart with Honey and Walnuts

YOU GUYS! I LOVE MY JOB!
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (go andy go!)
before I get into a foodpost, I'd like to share a quick & supercute moment from earlier this evening with my mom. I had to write today's date on something, and she told me it was the 15.

me: no, no, it's Tuesday, it's the 16! *scribbles* ... oh that's right, Folie a Deux came out today!
mom: oh, did she?

I just. MY MOM. THOUGHT FOB'S NEW ALBUM WAS A LESBIAN. HOW SO ADORABLE, MOTHER?!?

now, more foodsharing!

wine-poached calimyrna figs with chevre and smokey blue cheese creme )

I made these today for an active demo. had them on my table with a plate of turkey ham and Silver Spring (local) organic deli mustard on Potter's Crackers (local) caraway rye crackers. they were actually more popular than the ham & mustard on rye (which was a big hit on a slow night)! at times as I was making it this recipe seemed a little silly to me, but in the end I decided I was super happy with it. mostly because a ton of other people liked it, too! I ran out of figs, and gave out at least a dozen recipe cards! ROCKIN'!

in conclusion, I hope everybody has/had/is having a FABULOUS night! I am going to reply to comments on my last post, watch the last episode of Merlin (because I FELL ASLEEP HALFWAY THROUGH IT LAST NIGHT D: ), and then go to sleep because I waitress at Stir Crazy bright and early tomorrow morning! eeurgh! \o/
