sorry for the spam, but I didn't want to stick this on my last post due to Spoiler Courtesy Protocol and all that.

I'm very seriously making plans about the purchase of an iPod. however, I am a PC baby and therefore wary, both of Apple's tech support and Apple's prices. will an iPod (standard 30- or 60-GB model) be a device of the sort that survives? I've heard testimonials both good and discouraging, in the past. and while I have money to spend, I definitely don't have money to throw around, and do not wish to invest in a finicky critter. I want something that will serve me well and for at least a couple years.

please to advise?

Well, I have an iPod nano and it has surved me well and I haven't had any major problems with it (I have had it since X-mas) The only things I would sugest is buy a nice case for it with a screen protector so it won't get damged and charge it every night because the battery runs even when it is off. My dad ordered it using the phone and they got it out here when they said they would. I haven't needed to contact tech support because a god read through the manual explains everything.

I am tempted to buy a powerbook or something like that from Apple and I am also a PC girl. -____-;; I feel like such a traitor.

You might feel slighty dirty after buying the iPod, but the feeling will pass.

I have an iPod, but I only got it because I have a mac and they won't let you use other mp3 players. I like Creatives much better.

I have an Ipod Nano. I love it!!! I definitely recommend a good case to protect it from harm!!!

I have no direct experiences with them, but my older sister had a terrible time with setting one up for an 11-year old boy. She said it was one of the most un-user friendly products she'd used in a long time. One of my friends has a Creative Zen dealie, I think, and her parents got her that even though she very clearly had her heart set on an iPod. She loves it, so I guess something about it is good. *shrug*

Don't worry about the PC. My sis has an iPod Nano and it works fine with our PC.

Actually, if you're worried about money, I'd just get an iPod Nano. To me at least, they've PLENTY of song-space; way more than any regular mp3 player. The only real perk of a full iPod (that I know of) is that it plays video clips. Of what, I'm not sure.

My first iPod (Jonas) survived well over a year, until I dropped it for the final time, and it pissed out on me. I do intend to have it fixed (as I'm sure I only just knocked something loose) but... They are fairly reliable. My iPod mini (Jonas II) is doing quite well. But... If you get an iPod I would highly recommend a case for it. Just to cushion the blow when it falls.

Don't get me wrong, though. Those buggers are hard to break. I must've dropped my first one three dozen times (from a considerable height (four, or so, feet) to a hard floor) before it petered out on me. Still, they're very much worth the money. (*cough*Not that I ever actually 'bought' one. They were gifts.*cough*)

I've had mine for a year and have never had any complaints about it. in fact it's been one of the three biggest improvements to my life of recent times (up there with spliiting up with N and getting a new job, to give you some context). I do have a mac though, so I can't comment on the pc compatability issue
