OK---so 1. I've only ever finished one thing of fanfiction. 2. It wasn't numb3rs. 3. It was quite bad. So I've always been more of a reader, than a writer. But anyways...I saw this and since I absolutely fricking love Colby, especially in The Mole, I thought of this and ....I don't know---it is what it is.
The day returning to work after the incident with Dwayne Carter, Colby expected there to be a lot of tension. Scratch that---a lot of tension. The kind of tension that makes you wish you never came to work, but certainly the kind of tension that makes you think for the (what had Charlie once told him was the larges number---a quadrillion?) quadrillionth time that putting the man who saved your life in front of doing your job was not the smartest thing he’s done.
He kept his head down as he walked towards his desk, to avoid any of those looks he had been receiving since the incident, but mostly because he did not want to see if Don had arrived yet.
Along with all the paperwork on his desk when he finally arrived, was a bag full of red gumballs.
“What the heck?” he thought to himself, and then asked David, “hey man, did you put these here?”
“No, they were there when I got here this morning. I’m not sure who put them there. The only one around here then was Don. Oh---and Charlie was here about the fraud case Don wants him to work on.”
“Charlie?” Colby thought back to all the times going to Charlie’s office and taking out a red gumball, making sure to let Charlie note his choice of color.
“Maybe today’s not going to be so bad after all” he thought to himself as he started to chew one of the gumballs.
How a mathematician gives a hug.
