HALP!

what's that thing, literary term, where nature echoes the mood/tone of the character/story/whatever? (ps not pathetic fallacy. the other one.) yessss, I sound stupid. shh, my smart brain's busy formulating other things re: paper. (also, I'm sick. again? still? worse? something.) btw, I tried asking this question to the common room at large, but just got a bunch of blank stares.

which brings me to, also - WHY AM I THE ONLY ENGLISH MAJOR IN THIS HOUSE? SUCKTASTIC. JHASJKADH.

I've sent my mum off into musing mode on that one 'cause she's from the good old days of education where people used to learn things, as my memory of English is largely of understanding Shakespeare unlike 98% of the class, and loathing Far From the Madding Crowd with a passion.

Her first suggestion was ambience but then she went "Hmm, no, I'm sure there's something more specific than that".

Good luck with finding out, and I'll keeping prodding her memory while I can!

it turns out I didn't need it for my paper, but it's still kinda bugging me. yes, though, it's definitely more specific than ambience. thxu :D

My sister originally thought of pathetic fallacy, but when I told her that you're looking for something else, she came up with anthropomorphism. Is that what you're looking for?

it's more specific even than anthropomorphism ... if it exists. gah. since I don't needed it for the paper, though, I've just kinda let it go. for now. thank you though!

Anthropomorphism is all I can come up with, but I feel as though pathetic fallacy is a type of anthropomorphism, so I don't know how correct I am. *fails at English majoryness* THIS IS WHY I AM GOING TO GRAD SCHOOL WITH MY HISTORY DEGREE - LESS VOCABULARY!

Not even a little bit of an English major, but I am a compulsive researcher, so have poked around that uber-reliable reference, Wikipedia, and come up with maybe reification?

reification was what I was kind of maybe thinking. still dubious though. going to ask around tomorrow. *flail* (it's one of those things where I learned it, like, junior year of high school? so it's totally gone now. >.< )

Pathetic fallacy is the only one I've heard off... Anthropomorphism is more drawing a direct comparison between the nature and the human/animal.

because the rest of us are too lazy to spend our time delving and high-diving into literary works of merit. at least in that deep of a pool. we prefer the kiddie pool. yes, it gets peed in, yes, it gets pooped in, but it is sanitized often and the slides are more fun than the diving board, anyway. :D
