And my lovely [livejournal.com profile] gambling_pirate made that dream come true! Yet another reason I so love her.

It's BLUE.

...As you can see, it also wants a hoop skirt. Preferably, a crinoline cage. [livejournal.com profile] commodorified was fabulous enough to assuage much of my fears in putting one together, but I'm still uberly daunted at the task. Help? *big eyes*

OMG LOVE.
You need white gloves and one of those crazy hats. I am so jealous.

I agree.

I also just happen to own a parasol, (several pairs of) white gloves, and a hat that would match your dress, if it's the color I think it is. Though they're from a slightly later period-- 1883-- and the parasol handle needs mending. That dress is, what, 1850s?

Oh, and a modern crinoline, whic you are also welcome to borrow. I don't own a hoopskirt, butyou do know you can rent them from most bridal shops, right?

Well, you could call them and ask, and then point out to your parents how $10 (or whatever) to rent a hoop is much much less than you'd pay to rent a prom gown, never mind buying one.

Or we could see about making you one, since I traded mine for some custom woodworking years ago. But even making a hoopskirt does cost something.

We'll work something out. E-mail me (dendarii at tee dee ess dot net) and we can talk. :-)

oops

Um, yes, sorry, got distracted by my Sparrington-in-progress and a toothache, respectively.

Do you have IM? I'm pewtergryphon on AIM; we could talk details that way, if you ping me so I can buddy-list you?

Understandable excuses; no worries.

I can do that, yes, as soon as I get home tonight, unless I'm overtaken by something very sneaky at school and decide to play with AIM Express.

Bridal shops and hoop skirts? Maybe it's just the city I live in, but I'd try costume stores. But call first, right? It sucks to drive all across town before you find out that they don't have it.

Lots of wedding dresses require hoops, so bridal shops carry them. And costume stores are a lot rarer than bridal shops, so I recommend bridal shops for that reason.

YMMV, of course.

Oooh, lovely dress *bounce* Apologies, I can't really offer any help or advice on the making of stuff, since I'm what you'd term 'inexperienced' in that kind of thing...

you *must* acquire a parasol. it'd be lovely. and hoop skirt will be fine to make, barely any sewing needed it's just tricky to get the materials

Hello, reasonably-close-to-you-geographically costumer here.

What can I help you with? :-)

Oh, geez. I have to admit I'd forgotten about that, in the squee of the moment. *bounce!*

Um, wow. I'm still in the "ooh, I have a pretty dress and it needs stuff" mode, actually, and unfortunately the extent of my knowledge with expansive undergarments is duct-taping a hula-hoop to the bottom of an a-line underskirt as a last-minute King and I costume piece. Any help you could give would be unbelieveably incredibly wonderful and, if you have the time, I'm sure my parents would spring for the gas cost of me zipping over there to impose on you, being that they DON'T HAVE TO PAY FOR A PROM DRESS YAY!
