Hah! The power went out! For about... 2 hours. There was much fun to be had, starting with I didn't realize it had happened because my laptop's got battery backup and I could care less about the rest of the world -- I just thought the router had tripped over its shoelaces again and something had fallen off my bed onto my lightswitch.

Vivs and Pidge came down with flashlights to save me from my cavern, and it went something like this:

V: the power went out!
M: oh, did it?
V+P: yeah! you didn't notice?
M: well now that you mention it... [a few seconds later] hey, the stove's gas, isn't it?
P: uh, yeah.
M: good! 'cause I want pizza.

we later determined that yes, it is a gas stove, but it is an electric oven. so we ate pringles and chatted in the living room -- Vivs and I ranted and giggled about work, and the crazy Mexicans therein, and another coworker who through not so terribly much fault of her own worked the day on three hours of sleep and hung-over; Pidge and Da just made curious 'hmh' noises. there was also talk of a steam-powered internet, the passage of time in Star Wars, the previously mentioned in this journal Outer Rim Job, and the prediction once made that travelling at 35 mph or more would make a person explode. much fun, life with nerds.

then Vivs and I went out to the family room to listen to the last two episodes of the Hitchhiker's Guide radio show, Pidge joined us, then the dog joined us, then Vivs left for bed, then I dozed off, then the power came back on! and that was the adventure.

w00t! Sounds like a good adventure :-) Except for the lack of pizza, that is... All of our cooking stuff is electric here, so if we ever have a power cut *touch wood* which hasn't happened in a while, we have to get the camping gear out of the loft even to make a cup of tea! Which means we usually just wander off to find a pub which isn't suffering from the power cut, lol.

Mmm... candles...

Ah, power cuts. They're not so bad. In Northern India, I remember, they happened twice a day. Usually iin the middle of a film. But luckily, the "cinema" had a generator...

A gas stove with an electric oven? How odd!

The gas stove in my old house had electric -igniters- for the burners and oven, but all that meant was that when the power went out I got to play with use matches to light the burners.

We had our power outage late Friday night, after I was already asleep. If it hadn't been for the clock on the stove blinking (and [livejournal.com profile] fairestcat's misfortune with her lost [livejournal.com profile] metafandom post) I'd never have known it happened at all.

Anyway, glad you survived the crisis OK. :)

Love power cuts. Always go bouncy and hyperactive when they happen. But... you didn't try to fry the pizza?

Well, we didn't actually try the stove, but I'd assume its igniters are electric (that word is HARD to spell at 4 in the morning) as well. Because... that just seems sensible.

Oh, yes, I do remember hearing that mentioned. Tres suck.

it was an option put forth, yes. but with no lights... and pringles readily available... well, it just seemed less important.
