themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (I survived!)
because for some reason all my vid bugs get me while I'm working at the hotel.

Actually Reasonably Serious Vid - Batman Begins, "Runaway Train"
Totally Crack Liek OMGWTF Vid - Pirates of the Caribbean (Sparrington), "Waterloo" I um. so much crack.

I'm uploading my work mix, because it is that awesome. I'll either be putting it up later tonight, or tomorrow after I wake up from crashing and sleeping a ton (tomorrow's my day off).

and I STILL have no idea, AT ALL, where I'm taking this JulNoWriMo thing.
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (coffee)
note to self: buy mini-cupcake papers/tins tomorrow morning, FIRSTEST THING, and get baking you whore.
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (Alfie)
I'd been planning to write a "so it's peak convention/concertgoing/vacationing season and here's a primer on how to not abuse the housekeeping staff at your hotel of choice" post, but this article from the 2006 General Convention says the most important stuff pretty well: From Columbus: "Justice, Respect and a Living Wage" resolution aimed at hotel workers

and, you know, all that other shit like "please don't clip your toenails all over the place" and "if you shave over the sink, try to get the fur in the sink" and "if you smoke even in the bathroom I'll hunt you down and *fucking kill you*" and just generally be considerate. because yes, you're paying good money for the use of that room, but so are the people after you, and we don't have a lot of time to get it ready for them, so have as much fun as you want but please don't totally trash the place. those keycard envelopes say "valued guest" for a reason -- while it's our job to treat you as a guest and we'll gladly do it, we also hope and presume you will behave as one. preferably.
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (ikitten)
got called off work this morning, which meant I spent the day driving kids around and bitching about how I haven't been writing, instead of actually answering comments / doing other lj- or fandom-ish things on my list. decided I'd go for [livejournal.com profile] julnowrimo, completely without warning, then had a pizza/Diet Coke/Star Trek: Voyager marathon with the kid (DVDs have to go back soon ;_; ). and tomorrow I actually will have work, so I'd better sleep.

also, in case anyone was NOT clear on this as of yet:
You Communicate With Your Ears

You love conversations, both as a listener and a talker.
What people say is important to you, and you're often most affected by words, not actions.
You love to hear complements from others. And when you're upset, you often talk to yourself.
Music is very important to you. It's difficult to find you without your iPod.
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (coffee)
mum brought home her monitor-projector from work so we had family Voyager night on the big living room window shade, and I just have to say for anyone who has yet to pick up on this that I still have the most mahoosive crush on that show, on Captain Janeway, on Seven, oh and again on Janeway. and her coffee addiction, lolz.

sleep now, must be alert (i.e. caffeinated) extra-early tomorrow morning :)
(I promise I will answer all backlogged comments tomorrow before and after work. but right now sleep is definitely imperative)

first, thanks to everyone who offered support on my last post. *love*

second, I'm probably going to be spending more time with the family and the household and less time on the internets. this is not because I don't love you; it's just because when they demand attention they do it so much more loudly. >_< I might even be cutting my flist-reading down to a filter, again not because I don't love all the wonderful people on my flist, but because I just don't have time, and the current Exploding Flist has been known to eat important posts. uncool.

lastly, I really need to go to sleep now, as I have to work FIVE DAYS IN A ROW starting tomorrow. what fun! *scowl*

if there's something you'd especially like me to see that I appear to have missed (e.g. a fic, a meta, a rant requesting virtual hugs, etc.), please leave a comment. I will try to get to it, but can make no guarantees because frankly I am a person of the least responsible sort. but I do love you ;o;
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (attitude)
ok you guys tomorrow had better be the best day in the history of ever for me, because today was another one of those which sucked like none other.

e.g. -- work wasn't too intense, except that someone randomly quit so I got three rooms added to my list, oh and also a couple of my co-workers decided to start gay-bashing. that is to say, we were discussing the etymology/historical usage of such words as prick and fuck, and then one woman (we'll call her J.) chipped in that "oh, gay isn't even originally a bad word" at which point coworker 2 (let's say, L.) came back instantly with "gay isn't a bad word at all" and I added my agreement BUT WAIT NO. L. continued to say that gay really only means "happy", as far as she's concerned, and she doesn't call homosexuals gay, she calls them fags or faggots. which made me pop my head out of the doorway of the bathroom I was cleaning and say "isn't that in reference to burning homosexuals?" (which I know it actually isn't, see here, but it was the quickest most dramatic least complex response and the point is her response: "well, if the shoe fits..."

I was already edgy after a full day's work and a late check-out, so I very very nearly exploded, and instead settled for heading off to do a room on my own and slam the pillows around as I made the bed.

since sexual orientation is included in WI's antidiscrimination employment laws, I'll keep an eye on this issue (though I won't make a stink just yet). because the fact is that while I don't yet feel threatened/uncomfortable enough to bring it up, if that ever does become an issue I do have the right to a non-threatening work environment. chances are she probably didn't know precisely what she was saying or to whom, so I won't be a drama queen about it :)
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (dork)
so today was another one of those busy days :D [livejournal.com profile] __dtrain is off for Ireland (FOR A MONTH! D: ), so we were playing the airport payphone game; before that my brother got the police called to the house (long story), and afterwards it was deposit/cash-paycheck and go-to-library time. then I snuggled up with my lauragator, and Pidge with his GINORMOUS STUFFED TROUT, and Vivs with her sketchpad, and the three of us watched Star Trek: Voyager episodes until our day's quota of nostalgia (and crushing, OH the crushing) had been filled and it was/is time for bed. (secondary plus is that the DVD noises drowned out parental arguing.)

HOWEVER.

Minden, sweetie, I'm so sorry I wasn't available today. tomorrow after work, I'm all yours. promise :)
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (superman)
so I've been bouncing this idea around in my head for a little while and I guess I may as well toss it out there.

after so much freaking fun was had with the BoP group chat viewing things, I'm thinking, how would doing that somewhat regularly and with other movies be? i.e., a Cillian movie club ... comm. thing. pick a movie; give people time to beg, borrow, buy, steal, or share it; set up a chat and have a blast; do it all again next time? eh, or I may be insane. but I think it would be fun!

so what do you my fantabulous f'listers think? am I completely off the wall here? or would you / other people be up for it?
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (bad day)
so, I think I made one of the dumbest decisions in history today (no seriously, it's right up there with "march a bunch of guys in bad shoes across Russia in the middle of winter" and "forget to convert between metric & standard, blow up spaceship").

I went into work sick. really, REALLY bad idea.

so not only was I INSANELY slow, cleaning rooms, but I was throwing up all over the place and walking into things and couldn't push my freaking cart and wow it sucked. and then by the time I got over the throwing up everywhere, I cut my finger and started BLEEDING on everything. just great. really, really great. oh and the bag with all the coffee packets in it exploded in the elevator, and I ran out of washcloths, and someone SMOKED IN A NON-SMOKING ROOM (actually the whole building's non-smoking so WTF?) and just... man. bad day.

so now I'm going to the zoo! assuming I can find clothes.
AHAHAHAHAHAHA PIDGE AND I ARE BOTH WEARING BATMAN T-SHIRTS OMG LOLZ.
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (fucking spectacular (JackDav))
so, today was a busy busy day. went malling with the fantabulous [livejournal.com profile] silverjet747; saw The Breakup. OH MY GOODNESS VINCE VAUGHN, YOU ARE SO FUNNY. also oh my goodness Nat, I love you. I hope Seamus is ok ;_;

then I came home and mum mugged me and we did some carpet-cleaning voodoo on the van. that was fun ... UM NOT. and THEN we watched some John Cleese Sherlock Holmes The-End-Of-Civilization-As-We-Know-It movie, and THAT was fun. ish. yanno. and I played a mess of the BB GAMEUUUBE!! game, at which I continue to suck, but which still amuses me greatly.

I AM BATMAN! FEAR MY SPANDEXY WRATH!

er, yes, I am rather insane at the moment. what tipped you off?

hugs and kisses,
mel

(p.s. [livejournal.com profile] __dtrain, you know that whole ships-passing-in-the-night thing that was going on all of today? so not cool. I'm sorry)
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (batsanity)
goddamnit.
every time I try to write Smallville!Lex!voice, it turns into JLU!Flash!voice. every. goddamn. time.

I'LL GET YOU, MICHAEL ROSENBAUM! AND YOUR DC-TELEVISION UBIQUITY, TOO!
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (Arkham-brand revolving doors)
"Hey Mel? Is it soda first, or icecream?"
-Vivs, on the topic of root beer floats

the girl is adorable, but sometimes I have to wonder how she'll ever survive.

she discovered 94.1 Madison WJJO while waiting in the van for me to return from nosing around BA, though (I wanted to give the librarian flowers, as she's retiring and I love her), so that was fun. even if she did ditch my Gershwin CD for it :[ (p.s. "Lullaby for Strings" is love)

speaking of CDs, [livejournal.com profile] the_automatik, I got your MP3 mix in the mail today! haven't cracked into it just yet, but I shall very soon.

...whoah. the dog just materialized from amidst the to-be-folded laundry on my bed. wtf? I didn't even know he was in here.
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (english major)
yesterday I paid five little girls at a cardboard box in their front lawn five dollars ($1 each) for a twenty-five cent cup of lemonade, with the five dollar bill someone had left me as a tip. and you know what? it was the best lemonade EVER -- karma-licious.

today, on the other hand, I made two little boys giggle (and their parents bust up laughing) when I got particularly fed up with a stain on the counter and shouted, "OUT, DAMNED SPOT!" I suppose it was only a matter of time, really, considering the fact that I sing Purcell and recite Chaucer while making beds.

[ETA: I've changed the comment link text on my layout to better reflect my current employment. I find it amusing; you may not. I do not care, as it is my journal and not yours.]
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (lime)
Pidge and I watched Sunburn this evening (which DVD worked perfectly, thank you [livejournal.com profile] bagelmuffin_luv!), and it was very happy-making. I find, unfortunately, that the movies I've seen for Cillian have been rather hit-or-miss as to my enjoyment, but this one's definitely a hit. and a quote from the boy upon seeing the title menu: "oh, it's a movie about a boy in a pink shirt ... wait. haven't we seen this one before?" *giggle* -- of course I'm also obliged to mention how TWILIGHT ZONE it was seeing Davin in (adorably hopeless) drag and just thinking, "well, practice makes perfect?" all in all, a very fun, very cute movie, sweet but not too sweet, just the way I like them. yay!

switching gears, here's a quick something for my girl [livejournal.com profile] __dtrain who had a bit of an unsatisfactory day (though it's clearing up, so consider this fashionably late). picture )
yes, those are my little monkey toes poking out from the cuffs of my uniform bottoms.

aand, Pidge wants me to watch Craig Ferguson with him, but I need to go to BED NOW! because there's work tomorrow >.<;
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (dork)
You Are Chocolate Ice Cream

You have a flair for the dramatic and love to party.
Your personality is super strong and unique.
Many people crave you constantly - while you turn a few off.

You are most compatible with coffee ice cream.

also, I FINALLY got Smallville S1 from the library (I've been stalking it, but someone had it checked out), so can FINALLY get some real progress made on my xover ficathon fic and so um. YES! YAY! -- note to self: email [livejournal.com profile] xzombiexkittenx although if [livejournal.com profile] xzombiexkittenx reads this before you manage to remember to e-mail then OMG SORRY I'LL GET IT DONE ASAP AND THIS IS THE FIRST FIC THING I'VE WRITTEN SINCE FOREVER SO I AM SO EXCITED OMG ... gah, I'm a failure sometimes, no?
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (go team kitten!)
so I was just talking to my brother about going to the grocery store for soda and I said oh there was some other reason I was planning to go... oh! I need sausages (for this risotto recipe).

and he immediately replied with "sausages! sausages! stay where you are!" in a perfect impression of little Laurence Feely in his Dalek game.

♥ that kid (Pidge) can be a total dumbass, but I love him.

p.s. [livejournal.com profile] bagelmuffin_luv! I got the dvd! finally :S it got to school on may 24, and they forwarded it here. WOOT! (the doodle is ADORABLE. *loff*)

I don't care WHAT you say, BoP fandom is THE MOST FABULOUS.
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (pi)
WI gets such shit representation on TV, except maybe That 70's Show. it's funny XDD

I just got back from [livejournal.com profile] i_puddleglum's, and the dog's checking me out to make sure I didn't cheat on him. which I did. and, also, I have to re-confess that I love night driving, crazy as that may sound. and rain driving, and snow driving, and... just driving, actually. except the REALLY shitty driving where you think you're gonna whip off the road and smash at any second. oh, and tunnels.

ZZZZZZZZ *snore*

(P.S. [livejournal.com profile] wormmonabc, WE SHOULD PLAY TOMORROW. I have nothing else going on. srsly)

[ETA - oh, I forgot! saw my shrink today for new 'scrips and GUESS WHAT. he's reading His Majesty's Dragon. he saw me with Throne of Jade and was like "OMG!" and I saw His Majesty's Dragon on his desk and went "OMG!!!!" and yes. heeeeee. he's the one who informed me of this "Harry Potter" series, too, way back when ;p]
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (omg)
so I was sitting here, checking my e-mail and thinking, "wow, my ponytail feels really weird."

and then I realized I don't have a ponytail.

*grin*

in other news, it would appear that my mother has learned to make a decent pot of coffee. this may in fact be a fluke, but ... it'd be nice if it were the general way of things now.
