I...

my mother just told me she pulled all-nighters in graduate school.
I mean, if you know my mother, which you don't, but ok, her big college story is "I got a C in PoliSci and almost had a breakdown." she's really... intense about college. not so much grade school, but college -- definitely. and it's one of those things that's been freaking me out. because the last thing I want is to go home for winter, and be all happy-enough with my grades, knowing the rough spots I worked through &c, and face her ... well, not quite disappointment, but that sort of acceptance-because-she-can't-do-anything-else (me, my mother, my schooling: the great Triangle of Fuckedupitude).

but tonight on the phone she asked me, "so how's your last final paper coming?" and I told her honestly, I only had the outline done, and she laughed (as in amiably) and comiserated about all-nighters (which, by the way, this is not, but that's not the point).

so yeah, I'm pretty floored. since when was my mother human?

*pets you*

It is a well known fact of life that no one (not even your mom) has EVER made it through graduate school without at least one all-nighter!

I've never managed to do any all-nighters. Ever. In my life. No matter how much I needed to. My body just can't handle it & demands at least 1 or 2 hours of sleep in every 24-30. Which is probably another reason why my Uni grades dropped from 1st to 3rd throughout my 3 years there (although it was mostly due to my socialising ;-)

my body... I've rather conditioned my body to handle it. much of the time. and then I crash and burn. that's the fun part.

it probably wasn't by choice. knowing her. there was an... earthquake, or the entirety of time shifted several hours, or...

yeah now I'm just babbling crazy-talk.
