you know what, people need to stop posting things like THIS (NSFW photomanipped Nightwing scan -- unmauled version here).
seriously.
there's "charming disregard for usual convention", and then there's "no, see, you don't cross that line."
(p.s. this, like most anything I say, is very much open to discussion, as I am rather too lazy to qualify everything and definitely welcome other takes)

Date: 2006-03-27 04:02 pm (UTC)In my defense though, I'm not Garth Ennis.
...
Allow me to clarify. Garth Ennis did a Punisher story arc almost entirely about women being raped. Frank Castle got so angry that he metaphorically raped one of the women responsible. In first issue AFTER the arc, Punisher comes across a man that's been held captive by a gang for the express purpose of being raped. Apparently his outrage is gone for the day, as Frank's entire response is basically "Meh."
That's not counting the time a male villain in Preacher got raped and developed a taste for anal sex. Or the time a man in Just A Wanderer got tentacle-raped by a monster and became massively pregnant.
So alright, saying I'm more enlightened than Garth Ennis may be damning with faint praise, but it's not like I invented (http://www.capvsbats.com/Parodies/IDCrisisHostessAd.htm) black humor. It's human nature to take the piss out of bad things, good things, and sacred cows in general. Moreover, Dick Grayson's a fictional character. It's not like I'm going to hurt his feelings.

Date: 2006-03-27 04:34 pm (UTC)anyway, I hear what you're saying. and black humor is good. I appreciate it, precisely for the making-bad-things-funny quality. and also, yanno, the funny is a good thing. this is/was one of those examples that I personally didn't find really funny, but that's me and I'm a small singular one among many who've got other opinions. which is cool. very cool, as a lot of people had a ton of fun reading your post. so I'm just an odd duck who came back to her nest to quack a little. since we actively don't play ljdrama here, I was/am sure that no flaming or other silly stuff has been instigated here. if you'd like me to take down the post, though, or take it off public, remove the link to your post, whatever -- that's a sensible request for you to make, and I can totally do that for you, no problem :)
and... yes. I'm pretty sure that's all I've got, because I want to go back to my nap now. stupid Gmail alerts *grump*

Date: 2006-03-27 04:51 pm (UTC)thanks for coming in and adding your side to the ... um, not really a discussion. smattering of comments XD. you generally do bring the best crack, so. that is definitely something to be shared.
(as for Garth Ennis, seriously, I have no idea.)
