oh my god, what.

so, let's just say that since I've been listening to a lot of audiobooks lately, and doing a lot of housecleaning, and reading ... not a lot of fic, but a surprising proportion of really good fic, and also been looking for something that makes me feel productive when I'm not cleaning or cooking or jobhunting -- anyway, let's just say, then, that I seem to have decided, without my own permission, that it would be great fun to record podfics -- not just any podfics, mind you, but podfics of the epic-length variety ...

anyway, say that's the case.

does anyone know what sort of software/process (mac-compatible) I'd be looking at to get the resulting madness into acceptable file size and format? just in case I decide to go through with this, you understand. uh.

:/

*twirls you* Go you!! I approve of podfic in all their various forms, but EPIC podfic makes me giddy. ;-)

Depending upon what kind of Mac that you have, you might actually already be set up and ready to go. I think just about every Mac after a certain year comes with Garage Band already installed and if you are on a Mac Book, there is a built in microphone. If you don't have Garage Band already installed, Audacity for Macs is all that you need. If you have the software but not the hardware, there are a number of microphones that you can buy that are Mac compatible. The only catch is that you need to make sure that they specify that they are Mac compatible, because I have a microphone that I can't use because it only works with Windows. (And even if you do have a built in mic, if you don't mind spending a few extra bucks to buy an external mic, it might be worth it to get rid of your fan noise) I have more than a few podfic tutorials and tips saved in my delicious.

hooray! this is awesome, because I have a (sometimes moderately reliable) iBook, and it has a mic (that I think might even work) and GarageBand! if I am considering what I think I am considering, I will probably in fact want to buy an actual mic, but at least this way I can get started on the right track. :D yay! thank you for your enabling help!

OH MY GOD, YOU'RE ALIVE; THANK GOODNESS! You have no idea how worried I've been for the past couple weeks. Your cell seems to be out of commission, but please CALL ME or E-MAIL ME or SOMETHING. If you are all right with that, of course!

Sorry this has nothing to do with your post. :P

LEAH! *tackle*

I might borrow Jules' phone some time this weekend to call you; my laptop's a cranky bitch and my phone's gone to shit and I'm fighting with AT&T to not have to pay exhorbitant amounts of money for a replacement (but I can't even pay non-exhorbitant amounts, atm, as I'm still interviewing for jobs :/). but I'll put it on my to-do list to call you tonight or tomorrow! I'm sorry! I MISS YOU!!!!! D:
