(here, have some more exclamation points: !!!!!!!!!!! that's 11. that should last a couple minutes.)

I just got home from a really freaking cool two-day conference/forum on bioethics and sustainability. some truly wicked panel discussions, a handful of solidly mind-blowing presentations, and the opportunity to pick some of the top brains in the sustainability/worldchanging arena. \o/
more on that later, though, because OH MY GOD EXHAUSTED.
Talon the Falcon is visiting Outpost tomorrow!
ETA: !!!!! vote on Threadless: Mac Man! I would embed the silly little graphic but that would spoil the brilliant surprise! MY SISTER MADE IT; SHE IS A GENIUS Y/Y.

HAPPY EARTH DAY!!!!!!!
here, have a green (and brown) delicious Earth Day soup recipe!
basically a variation on everybody's favorite potato and kale soup (caldo verde). not as good as
fairestcat's (or, what I've heard about Cat's), but pretty freaking wicked and incidentally 100% vegan. omnomnom. try it! (btw, lentils aside (because they were free) this HUGE POT OF SOUP cost me a whopping $6.50. can you say frugal?)
( recipe! )
also, TOMORROW IS EARTH DAY! KICK OFF YOUR SHOES! PLANT A TREE! I HAVE THE WHOLE DAY OFF; IT IS GOING TO BE SO AWESOME!!!

Apr. 15th, 2009 10:19 pmpart 2 of the 'clockwork cookies' project!
( fondant is still a bitch, but we seem to have an accord. sort of. )
ahaha, yeah, it took me all afternoon to complete 4 cookies. I'm going to have to pick up the pace! (BUT THEY LOOK REALLY AWESOME :O)

shit, fondant is a motherfucking sonuvabitch.
( 'clockwork cookies' decoration test run - fondant only )
hopefully I can get these under control and get the rest of my shit together in time for them to be a contribution to the bakesale at wiscon.
though I may kill myself before I finish that final batch. this is fucking finicky work.
*(yes, I linked to a youtube of Pete's line in Twin Peaks. every time I say the phrase "wrapped in plastic" it's still what sticks in my head. she's deeaad. wraaapped in plaastic.)
[ETA: hey success! properly bonded and with just a little bit of time to set, the entire faux-clockwork shenanigan can be carefully lifted and moved! this means I will not have to build it all on top of each cookie. \o/!!!]

fuck yeah i just effectively refloored most of my van with the aid of a boxcutter knife, duct tape, and a stripey indoor/outdoor tablecloth*.
because, no doubt, i am a BAD-ASS MOTHERFUCKER.
shit, what time do i have to be up tomorrow to get ready for the chicago drive & the concert? shut up, no way. *sigh*
*and a shitload of cursing when i put the seats back in. those things are supposed to be EASY to deal with? fuck you, toyota.

robots! (not so much in disguise)
Apr. 7th, 2009 03:39 pmso, I am sort of mucking around in an android-fantasy-slash-cyberpunk-slash-something-else (slash bandom) AU, uh. and it's a little bit epically huge in my brain, surrounding politics and love and gender theory and queer theory and "human" nature and um. did I mention the robots? so anyway.
while I do not imagine this will ever exit my head in a fully cohesive, sculpted story (because that would be, like, novel-length and while loving my brain I also recognize that it has simply not been wired for that sort of extended attention span), I will hopefully be throwing down some chunks o' 'verse in the kinda-near future, and I would like those to be as accurate and well-considered as possible.
my [re]reading/[re]viewing list includes: Asimov, early 80's cyberpunk, The Cyborg Manifesto (which I think/reallyhope I still have in a binder somewhere?), and also some movies. to be fair I only started constructing said list last night. but the important part of this post is, hi flist! what would you add?
[ps - miscellany/ohai uncanny valley!: while nosing around I also hit these videos of the HRP-4C Gynoid (fashion fembot) and the ever-exciting (while also a bit unsettling) CB2 Child Robot. iiiifff you haven't seen these, they are pretty freaking mindblowing. check it.]
[pps - fuck you very much,
iceyrica.]

[pps - fuck you very much,
things I want at this moment:
- William & Travis the leaders of a Dickensian band of street urchins AU
- a pony
... actually, that's basically it. I'm pretty simple.
also after several tests I can confidently say that a couple eggs + random cooperative veg (properly but not overly sauteed) + a decent blop of leftover Indian curry-type whatever = a pretty decent lazyperson's breakfast/lunch/dinner/late meal of varying identity, especially if you add a chopped veggie breakfast link or two. woo!

dear flist, please do not forget EARTH HOUR tonight! 8:30-9:30 PM your local time!
I will be turning off all nonessential appliances and electronics for that hour and snuggling up with a book and, well, a flashlight. 'cos it's dark. you do whatever works for you.
(secret notice: even if you're reading this and you've missed THE Earth Hour start time in your area, don't give up. turn out the lights for the next couple minutes or something!)

Mar. 25th, 2009 04:08 ami know you're not supposed to blame people for passing on illness but. PARENTS, I KNOW YOU GAVE ME THIS STUPID MOTHERFUCKING DEATHCOLD AND I CANNOT AFFORD TO BE SICK RIGHT NOW AND I HATE YOU SO MUCH.
GODDAMMIT.
(at least my body has figured out not to get sick before my "weekend", so. that's kind of a plus.)

CONFESSION:
every time I see an eighteen-wheeler on the road I think of Bob Bryar.
literally every time, and driving highways in the Midwest that's at least a dozen times a day. trufax.

a little more than two years ago I did this.
I figure, officially past the two-year mark, it must've healed thoroughly by now so tonight, for the first time in those two-plus years, I finally dug out my corset and laced it up again.
(bonus information: in addition today was One Of Those Days: the slightly manic, delicately off-kilter days that make me feel out-of-focus, too big and too small and like I am falling out of myself. plus it's the supposed First Day of Spring, which just kicks all of that up a notch.)
in conclusion, oh my god, YES. it feels like I've been put back in my skin.

Mar. 18th, 2009 07:47 pmbecause she is a crazy person (WHO I ADORE),
katilara is looking for pictures of your Detachable Penis Moustache (a.k.a. FINGERSTACHE)! and these are my contributions.
( I wanted to get a fingerstache on Obama, but I couldn't find my 'YES WE DID' sticker. frown. )

I WOULD LIKE YOU TO SUBMIT TO ME A PHOTO OF YOU OR SOMEONE YOU LOVE OR A GROUP OF STRANGERS YOU AMBUSHED DISPLAYING FINGERSTACHES. That is, as long as you wouldn't mind me using the picture in the video. I won't edit the video till tomorrow to give optimal time for fingerstache sharing. Please take ridiculous photos of yourself. Please tell your other friends. Please pimp this post. I'll even leave this entry unlocked so that random strangers can come by and leave photos in the comments. I want as many ridiculous fingerstaches as possible. And let's face it, in bandom ridiculosity is not only possible, it's highly probable.
thank you.
i told my beloved
lordgroovius i'd post this before i went to bed.
