went to see DMC again. brain mutinied on me, now wants to write and/or 'ship J/W. dumb brain. were you just NOT PAYING ATTENTION FOR THE PAST TWO-POINT-FIVE YEARS?!?

despite the sound of brain-shot rolling across brain-decks, refuse to abandon OTP; have applied liberal amounts of Vanilla Hazelnut Tea and also Chicken with Peanut Sauce and am now ficcing, boo-yah.

take that, you disloyal cortex...es.
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (lime)
Pidge: I'm a ship stranded in the delta quad-rant...
Mel: I'm Voyager.
P: my captain's a girl.
M: she's short.
(sung to the main melody of the Star Trek: Voyager theme)

in other news, I hear that if I try on a pair of jeans at American Eagle, I get a free ticket to any AMC theater. Pidge and I are going to explore this claim at the mall tomorrow, hopefully with the result of seeing PotC: DMC again. whether we succeed or fail, I definitely have idea-age for a ficlet I need to be writing tomorrow -- and that is something which makes me ridiculously happy!

also, I got three $5 tips at work today. go me! *is charmer*

[ETA: also tomorrow, I plan to reply to the comments people have left on my last few posts. aiee, I fail at lj upkeep!]

sorry for the spam, but I didn't want to stick this on my last post due to Spoiler Courtesy Protocol and all that.

I'm very seriously making plans about the purchase of an iPod. however, I am a PC baby and therefore wary, both of Apple's tech support and Apple's prices. will an iPod (standard 30- or 60-GB model) be a device of the sort that survives? I've heard testimonials both good and discouraging, in the past. and while I have money to spend, I definitely don't have money to throw around, and do not wish to invest in a finicky critter. I want something that will serve me well and for at least a couple years.

please to advise?

I continue to hold out hope that I just managed to miss something pivotal during that first viewing, and that someone else caught it and can pass that info along. because right now, I am distraught.
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (pirate!mel)
going to the midnight showing of Dead Man's Chest was definitely one of the better decisions I've made in my lifetime. as threatened, I attended in full costume, from my very Sparrowish brown tricorne down to the tip-toes of my fabulous pirate boots. accompanying me were Pidge and [livejournal.com profile] i_puddleglum, the latter in a lovely lavender top with matching Piratey Bandana and wielding an 100% authentic plastic toy cutlass. I should have taken pictures, but we haven't a clue where the camera is.

AVAST YE! there be spoilers lurking beneath this here LJ cut. )

so, um... is it next July yet?
no, wait. I want to play with this one :D *looking forward to the year ahead*

[ETA: ok looking at my mood icon just made me *whimper*. OH, JAMIE! ;A; ]

Lois: It's a bird.
Perry: It's a plane.
Jimmy: No, look it's...
Clark: Uh, you wanted to see me?

you see this picture? looks pretty damn silly, doesn't it. but that sucker is great in action. srsly! I definitely approve of the movie, even though there were some parts that weren't so great (Lois Lane being a major DiD, for one). they did a fantastic job of carrying on / bringing in all the Superman mythos and it was epic and uplifting and grin-inducing and just plain fun and man. I loved it.

more later, maybe, but I need to sleep now!

(p.s. it wasn't until we were walking out of the theater that I realized I was wearing a Batman-logo tee, which amused me greatly and even moreso when the kid in a Flash-logo tee walked past and we both cracked up at each other)

in other news, I've discovered that one of my favorite things to do when I'm in a sour/unsociable/simply non-interactive mood is to give my mother utterly zilch response when she goes off on one of her "pet cause" spiels, and see how long it takes her to notice. frequently, she never does.

(actually, I probably should have listened to that one; it was about historical Anglicanism & Roman Catholicism and sounded rather interesting)

themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (I survived!)
because for some reason all my vid bugs get me while I'm working at the hotel.

Actually Reasonably Serious Vid - Batman Begins, "Runaway Train"
Totally Crack Liek OMGWTF Vid - Pirates of the Caribbean (Sparrington), "Waterloo" I um. so much crack.

I'm uploading my work mix, because it is that awesome. I'll either be putting it up later tonight, or tomorrow after I wake up from crashing and sleeping a ton (tomorrow's my day off).

and I STILL have no idea, AT ALL, where I'm taking this JulNoWriMo thing.
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (coffee)
note to self: buy mini-cupcake papers/tins tomorrow morning, FIRSTEST THING, and get baking you whore.
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (Alfie)
I'd been planning to write a "so it's peak convention/concertgoing/vacationing season and here's a primer on how to not abuse the housekeeping staff at your hotel of choice" post, but this article from the 2006 General Convention says the most important stuff pretty well: From Columbus: "Justice, Respect and a Living Wage" resolution aimed at hotel workers

and, you know, all that other shit like "please don't clip your toenails all over the place" and "if you shave over the sink, try to get the fur in the sink" and "if you smoke even in the bathroom I'll hunt you down and *fucking kill you*" and just generally be considerate. because yes, you're paying good money for the use of that room, but so are the people after you, and we don't have a lot of time to get it ready for them, so have as much fun as you want but please don't totally trash the place. those keycard envelopes say "valued guest" for a reason -- while it's our job to treat you as a guest and we'll gladly do it, we also hope and presume you will behave as one. preferably.
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (ikitten)
got called off work this morning, which meant I spent the day driving kids around and bitching about how I haven't been writing, instead of actually answering comments / doing other lj- or fandom-ish things on my list. decided I'd go for [livejournal.com profile] julnowrimo, completely without warning, then had a pizza/Diet Coke/Star Trek: Voyager marathon with the kid (DVDs have to go back soon ;_; ). and tomorrow I actually will have work, so I'd better sleep.

also, in case anyone was NOT clear on this as of yet:
You Communicate With Your Ears

You love conversations, both as a listener and a talker.
What people say is important to you, and you're often most affected by words, not actions.
You love to hear complements from others. And when you're upset, you often talk to yourself.
Music is very important to you. It's difficult to find you without your iPod.
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (coffee)
mum brought home her monitor-projector from work so we had family Voyager night on the big living room window shade, and I just have to say for anyone who has yet to pick up on this that I still have the most mahoosive crush on that show, on Captain Janeway, on Seven, oh and again on Janeway. and her coffee addiction, lolz.

sleep now, must be alert (i.e. caffeinated) extra-early tomorrow morning :)
(I promise I will answer all backlogged comments tomorrow before and after work. but right now sleep is definitely imperative)

first, thanks to everyone who offered support on my last post. *love*

second, I'm probably going to be spending more time with the family and the household and less time on the internets. this is not because I don't love you; it's just because when they demand attention they do it so much more loudly. >_< I might even be cutting my flist-reading down to a filter, again not because I don't love all the wonderful people on my flist, but because I just don't have time, and the current Exploding Flist has been known to eat important posts. uncool.

lastly, I really need to go to sleep now, as I have to work FIVE DAYS IN A ROW starting tomorrow. what fun! *scowl*

if there's something you'd especially like me to see that I appear to have missed (e.g. a fic, a meta, a rant requesting virtual hugs, etc.), please leave a comment. I will try to get to it, but can make no guarantees because frankly I am a person of the least responsible sort. but I do love you ;o;
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (attitude)
ok you guys tomorrow had better be the best day in the history of ever for me, because today was another one of those which sucked like none other.

e.g. -- work wasn't too intense, except that someone randomly quit so I got three rooms added to my list, oh and also a couple of my co-workers decided to start gay-bashing. that is to say, we were discussing the etymology/historical usage of such words as prick and fuck, and then one woman (we'll call her J.) chipped in that "oh, gay isn't even originally a bad word" at which point coworker 2 (let's say, L.) came back instantly with "gay isn't a bad word at all" and I added my agreement BUT WAIT NO. L. continued to say that gay really only means "happy", as far as she's concerned, and she doesn't call homosexuals gay, she calls them fags or faggots. which made me pop my head out of the doorway of the bathroom I was cleaning and say "isn't that in reference to burning homosexuals?" (which I know it actually isn't, see here, but it was the quickest most dramatic least complex response and the point is her response: "well, if the shoe fits..."

I was already edgy after a full day's work and a late check-out, so I very very nearly exploded, and instead settled for heading off to do a room on my own and slam the pillows around as I made the bed.

since sexual orientation is included in WI's antidiscrimination employment laws, I'll keep an eye on this issue (though I won't make a stink just yet). because the fact is that while I don't yet feel threatened/uncomfortable enough to bring it up, if that ever does become an issue I do have the right to a non-threatening work environment. chances are she probably didn't know precisely what she was saying or to whom, so I won't be a drama queen about it :)
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (dork)
so today was another one of those busy days :D [livejournal.com profile] __dtrain is off for Ireland (FOR A MONTH! D: ), so we were playing the airport payphone game; before that my brother got the police called to the house (long story), and afterwards it was deposit/cash-paycheck and go-to-library time. then I snuggled up with my lauragator, and Pidge with his GINORMOUS STUFFED TROUT, and Vivs with her sketchpad, and the three of us watched Star Trek: Voyager episodes until our day's quota of nostalgia (and crushing, OH the crushing) had been filled and it was/is time for bed. (secondary plus is that the DVD noises drowned out parental arguing.)

HOWEVER.

Minden, sweetie, I'm so sorry I wasn't available today. tomorrow after work, I'm all yours. promise :)
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (superman)
so I've been bouncing this idea around in my head for a little while and I guess I may as well toss it out there.

after so much freaking fun was had with the BoP group chat viewing things, I'm thinking, how would doing that somewhat regularly and with other movies be? i.e., a Cillian movie club ... comm. thing. pick a movie; give people time to beg, borrow, buy, steal, or share it; set up a chat and have a blast; do it all again next time? eh, or I may be insane. but I think it would be fun!

so what do you my fantabulous f'listers think? am I completely off the wall here? or would you / other people be up for it?
