FINALLY, haircut today!

Photobucket

moar pictures )

not much chattiness because after 2.5 hours of hair product smell (and, of that, 1.5 hours getting my hair tugged and razored) and 24ish hours of insufficient hydration (though guess what! I have been able to keep significant fluids AND SOME SOLIDS down today!) I have a raging cranky headache.

does anyone have a secret hint to help me NOT THROW UP ALL DAY?*

... 'cause right now, my track record ... she is not so good. :/

*I'm pretty sure I don't even have the flu or anything. my stomach just freaking hates me. worst day off ever.

[in other news,

things which have made me happy today:

- making just over $100 at work after tipouts. technically this happened yesterday, but shh. I'm still happy. and I know, it's not epic good money, but it's a lot better than I've been squeezing out of the joint lately. obviously I need to work more doubles and more closing shifts.

- the Merlin soundtrack. makes me smile like an IDIOT. as I keep saying, it's been a long time since I've fallen this hard for a show. (ps [livejournal.com profile] tya_rc I KNOW I STILL NEED TO TRANSCRIBE THAT AUDIO FOR YOU! (assuming you still need it.) I know I'm a jackass. Wednesday I have off from both jobs, so I will get it done then. promise! :D)

- "Ulysses", Franz Ferdinand's new single. SO FUCKING BOUNCY. and ... yanno. Ulysses.

- my foods for today, delicious vegan (and gluten-free!) root vegetable gratin )

- OMG BANDOM CANON. (and OMG [livejournal.com profile] fairestcat for keeping me abreast of the ridiculousness!) OMFG.

*--*--*--*[livejournal.com profile] jaredsexual you can stop reading now*--*--*--*

- lastly (but CERTAINLY not least), OBAMA!!!! tomorrow!! I don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight. it's better than Christmas. :D :D :DDDDD

[livejournal.com profile] used_songs had this on her journal and I just couldn't resist...

Bush countdown created by James Miller

no, I'm not expecting the world to change. I'm just relieved to have the opportunity to hope that together we can all work to make it that much brighter. :D

wait. no, wait. so you're saying I DON'T live in a frat house, rife with smelly boyish douchebaggery?

then why are people writing on mirrors with assorted hygienic creams and pastes? )

&my house; (where by the implication of "heart" I technically mean "what the actual fuck".)

(ps - the play-by-play is
the 1st line: my mother, yesterday morning, Colgate Baking Soda & Peroxide Whitening toothpaste.
the 2nd line: my brother, last night, Gillette Foamy Regular shaving cream.
the 3rd line: me, this afternoon, Crest Whitening Expressions Vanilla Mint toothpaste.)

also I need a haircut. badly. IT IS SERIOUSLY TOUCHING MY SHOULDERS YOU GUYS. D:

[ETA: conversation between my mom and me later in the evening
me: you know you could probably have worded that in a less pissy way.
mom: well I mean, do you know how hard it is to write with TOOTHPASTE?
me: actually, yes! and it is pretty difficult. so I guess I will cut you some slack.]

here lies Jasper.
...
he lived in a giant bucket.
:D

in other news, I have a gazillion recipes to post. cava-soaked fruit with lavender for new years, a tremendously dark and rich chocolate stout cake for my mom's birthday/belated mom's-side-of-the-family holiday event, quinoa-polenta nuggets, peanut butter udon noodles, face-burning margaritas ... probably others. I don't even know. I should filter, or start a separate blog, or something ... but that is far too much work. besides, if I never get around to posting about the food it can't even begin to take over my journal. there. problem solved.

... in addition I have so many people to catch up on, so much to do, an actual fic to actually write, and yet I can never seem to sit down long enough to get any of this started, much less finished. is this what real life feels like? it's what CRAZY feels like.

I am mostly recovered from my death-cold.
I am up way past my bedtime.
I am out of beer.

this is waaaaay out of my norm, but I've kind of sort of just snapped a little, so.

a word on getting one's tragus pierced in the middle of a bitter-cold Wisconsin winter:

there have been less irritatingly painful* ideas. there have also been much more irritatingly painful winter-specific ideas (see also: running in the snow (or, better yet, on freezing asphalt) while barefoot, fixing a car wiper blade in the wet-snow-rain without gloves on (♥, [livejournal.com profile] fairestcat!), faux-snogging a metal basketball hoop pole), but there have certainly been less irritatingly painful ideas.

also, god almighty do ears BLEED.

but all in all, I am extremely happy. pictures later, when I have stopped looking like a sonic-boom-gun victim.

*by which I mean that I wouldn't say it hurts like a bitch, per se, but you know that ear-bitey feeling you get when the wind whips around your head and it's in the single-digits or below? imagine that with a fresh bit of shiny metal through your ear. OUTSTANDING!
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (squish!)
this is the part where I whine (feel free to ignore): I worked 5 hours on Christmas freaking Eve and made all of $26. grump. /whine

however, I did take a friend and coworker home for pierogi, as her family is being shitty (and mine, for once, is not. yay!). so we had nommy food and some lovely chat time (to be honest, I am also kind of silly for her. which is a pity because she has gotten back with her girlfriend and also has this boy-complication, so her dance card appears rather full at the moment). good times. :)

also, I had a delicious, cozy, and very white-Christmasy lunch with [livejournal.com profile] gryphons_lair, followed by a brief afternoon of browsing and chatting at Brookfield Square. I also showed her THE BOOTS, which I have taken to calling my "Christmas shoes" (yes, like in the song. I am ~EMOTIONAL about them D: *pathetic*).

both parents are at church right now, but should be home soon so we can do ... I don't know what, as there aren't really presents this year. but we'll do something familyish :D

happy solstichanukwanzachristmawinter, my friends!
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (panic!: ryan's legs)
I have fallen, HARD, for these shoes: bordeaux-glazed patent leateresque herringbone-patchwork 3-inch-heeled knee-highs by Franco Sarto. but they are $109 at Boston Store and, I think, $99 at Macy's. more money than I have to spare right now. but OH GOD I WANT.

I WANT SO MUCH.

like, honestly, truly, words CANNOT CONVEY the longing that I feel for these boots. it's physically distressing.

I am so emo. D:

[ETA: I REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY WANT THEM. there has to be SOME WAY. THEY NEED TO BE ON MY FEET. nrgh.]
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (panic!: ryan's legs)
draaaaaaaama. or, at least, my version of it. surprise, it involves a) food, b) jobs, and c) weather. oh, also internet tv. and ryan ross.

first, storytime! yesterday I was SUPER CRANKY at the snow, because it meant I couldn't go in to Outpost to do my demoing and baking. well, guess what, I WENT IN ANYWAY. by mid-afternoon the weather had calmed down enough that I was able to drive out, do the baking (two tarts and five dozen cupcakes) and give Mom a tour of the store, and be home by 8. rockin! and I'm SO HAPPY I DID, because today was AMAZING. the gluten-free mini chocolate cupcakes were a HUGE HIT (and I made at least one little girl with celiac VERY HAPPY :D), and the brie-apple tarts got DEMOLISHED. I even had to run upstairs and print out more recipe cards halfway through the day, because so many people wanted to make it at home! and at LEAST half a dozen people asked to buy a premade tart, straight up. I was flattered, even though I could not actually sell the tart *g*

also, since [livejournal.com profile] phurie_dae coaxed me into watching it (twisted my arm. really.) I have TOTALLY FALLEN FOR BBC'S MERLIN. ugggggggh. BOYS~ and PLEASE, COME ON, SOMEBODY TRY AND TELL ME WEE!MERLIN IS *NOT* A CLONE OF RYAN ROSS. I DARE YOU. you guys, I need people to flail at about this show. message me.

thirdly, secret message for [livejournal.com profile] sansets: (I don't want to jinx anything because my desire to write has been rather fragile lately, along with my free time, but) GRETA AND LADY!BRENDON WILL NOT STOP MAKING OUT IN MY HEAD. IT'S VERY DISTRACTING. D:<

MOVING ON!

yeah, another recipe. I like coming up with these, okay? anyway, THIS TART IS DELICIOUS. )

YOU GUYS! I LOVE MY JOB!
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (go andy go!)
before I get into a foodpost, I'd like to share a quick & supercute moment from earlier this evening with my mom. I had to write today's date on something, and she told me it was the 15.

me: no, no, it's Tuesday, it's the 16! *scribbles* ... oh that's right, Folie a Deux came out today!
mom: oh, did she?

I just. MY MOM. THOUGHT FOB'S NEW ALBUM WAS A LESBIAN. HOW SO ADORABLE, MOTHER?!?

now, more foodsharing!

wine-poached calimyrna figs with chevre and smokey blue cheese creme )

I made these today for an active demo. had them on my table with a plate of turkey ham and Silver Spring (local) organic deli mustard on Potter's Crackers (local) caraway rye crackers. they were actually more popular than the ham & mustard on rye (which was a big hit on a slow night)! at times as I was making it this recipe seemed a little silly to me, but in the end I decided I was super happy with it. mostly because a ton of other people liked it, too! I ran out of figs, and gave out at least a dozen recipe cards! ROCKIN'!

in conclusion, I hope everybody has/had/is having a FABULOUS night! I am going to reply to comments on my last post, watch the last episode of Merlin (because I FELL ASLEEP HALFWAY THROUGH IT LAST NIGHT D: ), and then go to sleep because I waitress at Stir Crazy bright and early tomorrow morning! eeurgh! \o/
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (tiny angry tattooed vegan mascot)
you guys.

I really really want to go to culinary school instead of spending oodles of money stubbornly finishing an english degree that I will probably only use to pay for culinary school, if that. :/

(I do want to finish said degree, eventually, but OMG CULINARY SCHOOL.)

more on this angst later. work now :)

[livejournal.com profile] kinetikatrue ACTUALLY TAGGED ME, and that is the first time I have been tagged for a meme in, like, I think ... I don't know. possibly a year or more. so I figured I'd better do it.

First the rules:

a. People who have been tagged must write their answers on their blog and replace any question that they dislike with a new, original question.

b. Tag eight people. (or don’t. whatever.)

questions and answers )

urgh, bedtime. tagging [livejournal.com profile] crystic, [livejournal.com profile] fairestcat, [livejournal.com profile] jaredsexual, [livejournal.com profile] jobiegirl6, [livejournal.com profile] lordgroovius, [livejournal.com profile] johanirae, [livejournal.com profile] tiggothy, and you guys can all fight over the last slot [livejournal.com profile] birgitriddle (who did NOT fight over the last slot, but earned it by virtue of being nifty). also if you've already been tagged by someone else, obviously don't do it again; please just accept my apology for being thoroughly oblivious. chances are that I even READ YOUR POST and then promptly forgot. uuuuuuuugh my life.

OMG TAGGING PEOPLE MAKES ME SO UNCOMFORTABLE. I'M KIND OF PROUD OF MYSELF FOR GOING OUTSIDE OF MY COMFORT ZONE. \o/?
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (tiny angry tattooed vegan mascot)
okay, so, whatever, I translate things into food. it's how I roll. also, IT'S MY FUCKING JOB, OKAY? (oh god I love the fact that I can actually say that.)

anyway, delicious Folie a Deux cookies. )

the great thing about these cookies is they're not just Folie A Deux because that was what I was listening to on my drive to and from work, while coming up with the concept, and while baking them. they're Folie A Deux because, to me, they're like the album (and yes, this is where I start to sound kind of crazy). they're salty and sweet with a bit of a bite, a little spicy; luscious (because of the pumpkin, mmmm pumpkin) and yet layered with textures: crunchy, chewy, velvety-sweet-smooth; they're pretty and golden but a little scruffy, too. also my springboard was a traditional classic recipe (my grandmother's chocolate chip cookies), but then I modded the hell out of it to get something new -- kind of like the synthetic process that built Folie A Deux into what it is. and, ultimately, like the album, I'm not quite certain yet what I think of them -- but I'm pretty sure it balances out on the side of awesome. also color of the batter matches PStump's hair.

...WOO! COOKIES!

I should probably have started this entry *before* I took the sleeping pills. oops.

nb: the scratches & the weird edges/corners are courtesy of my brother; in addition to taking REALLY BAD CARE of the iPod (direct quote: "it got slammed in a few doors") he apparently also thought it would be clever to RUN A LIGHTER AROUND THE EDGES, thereby bubbling, burning, and generally fucking up the clear plastic. WHAT THE HELL. ASSHOLE.

HOWEVER, Saving The Day: what best friends are for? )

ETA: MEET GRETA! thank you, [livejournal.com profile] kinetikatrue! I am plotting as to your reward. we will be in touch. *g*

SO: help me name my new 2004 40G iPod Photo! as stated above, the main criterion is that the name be OUTSTANDINGLY AWESOME and/or TOTALLY SWEET. in particular, I am leaning toward names that are a little more dignified than your average fare. also, I am aware that I am very silly. shh.

the winning suggestion(s) will earn the person(s) who suggested it(/them) ... something. I do not know what quite yet. but something! along with the joy and warmth of knowing that you have assisted a friend in need!

...SO COME ON!
