disparate opinions:

i could listen to brendon urie sing 'three little birds' all night and all day tomorrow and forever.

my brother, though, has only one question: 'who the hell is doing this to bob marley?'

regardless, the conclusion is the same.
every little thing is gonna be all right.

so stfu world, i'm going to bed.

points of order, the first: tomorrow, wednesday, friday night as of 4 or 5 pm, and probably saturday i will be spending my time at summerfest. should you care to join me (tomorrow until 8 pm entry tickets are only $2! wednesday: the cab, friday: empires!), send me a text or something. i will see you there! woo!

the second: tonight i wandered over to my sister's apartment and we began the Epic Task of rewatching The L Word from s1e1 (fwiw, the last time i watched The L Word was three or four years ago. this time i hope to make it past season 3). six episodes in and this time around I am finding myself identifying most closely with Shane.* as far as levels of Concerning go, this would be considered:

a) mildly so,
b) wholly so,
c) not at all,
or
d) jesus, what?**

*again, this is season 1 Shane as of the end of episode six. also, i don't identify that strongly. just, you know, i see where she's coming from. a lot. and frequently.
**also possible:
e) other, further specified in comments

I suppose I can tell you this has nothing to do with Michael Jackson or Thriller except for the coincidental? you are not honor-bound to believe me, however.

the one where my sister turns me into a grody zombie and then shoots me in the head.
(link to her artblog. my sister!)

ps: Michael Jackson, Farah Fawcett, AND I had to leave L at the train station this morning? worst day ever? MAYBE.

fucking AMAZING evening; best I've had in months.

in part, but only part, because I spent a solid twenty minutes talking to our kitchen manager about fucking chicken parm (ASIAN FUSION CHICKEN PARM; YES IT IS EPIC NO SHUT UP) -- and half an hour before that talking about how we are food geeks and how yes I am *exactly* the kind of crazy that wants to spend the rest of my life in this fucked-up, life-destroying, TRULY AMAZING and terrible industry.*

ugh, food.

and then I drove home in a thunderstorm :D

*and now I can't help thrilling at the idea that one of these days, between shifts, he'll take me into the kitchen and we'll raid the cooler and cook, and I'll learn things, because he is a STONE-COLD CLASSICALLY TRAINED TUSCAN CHEF.

my mother found this in a book she's reading and directed my attention to it. I was certain there would be a handful of people on my flist/in my circle who might also find it worth exploring.

Generally speaking, we regard discomfort in any form as bad news. But for practitioners or spiritual warriors – people who have a certain hunger to know what is true – feelings like disappointment, embarrassment, irritation, resentment, anger, jealousy, and fear, instead of being bad news, are actually very clear moments that teach us where it is that we're holding back. They teach us to perk up and lean in when we feel we'd rather collapse and back away. They're like messengers that show us, with terrifying clarity, exactly where we're stuck. This very moment is the perfect teacher, and, lucky for us, it's with us wherever we are.

I WOULD TOTALLY NAME A KID BANDIT.

post-Wiscon, Dreamwidth-thinky, pro-fair-trade et cetera post forthcoming. in the next ... couple of days. I think. let's give this antibiotic time to do its job, at any rate, and maybe some time in there I will even upload myself an icon.

no, self, I am NOT getting sick. this is not a good time. and I will do nothing but stay in bed tomorrow drinking airborne and orange juice and eating spinach and bananas and whole grains if I have to, EVEN THOUGH that will sabotage the clockwork cookies, because no. there is no way in hell that I am getting sick.

suck on that, um, germs.

going back to bed now; meletor out.

(ps - also, self? if you could stop waking up at random times in the middle of the night THIS SHIT ALSO MIGHT NOT HAPPEN. >:[ )

part the first: Believers Never Die was indeed DOWNRIGHT MOTHERFUCKING AWESOME. some delightful take-no-prisoners pushing and crushing and moments of epic crowd-wide passion. god I love this shit. also got to share it (and the same half-dozen or fewer cubic feet of space) with the amazing girl and, when we could keep her with us, fabulous [personal profile] fairestcat, plus also a friend of the girl's (who is quite awesome in her very own right). happy, happy, happy mel. (ps HOW AM I SO FUCKING LUCKY?!)

then worked a double at the restaurant today. ow?

part the second: for those of you who haven't already seen this info on facebook, my poor little phone was a casualty of the crowd last night. while it's out to be fixed I have a loaner phone, but said phone has no contacts in it. so feel free to text me, but please let me know who you are when you do.

part the third: the madness that is my upcoming week )

now I need to go to bed ... half an hour ago. woo!

proper report on Believers Never Die Part Deux (which was tonight) later. maybe.

in the intervening time, please be aware that my cellphone is pretty broken. while I try to fix that, uh, you won't be able to reach me via text (or, obviously, via voicephone). hopefully I'll at least have an interim situation by Tuesday (the earliest opportunity I'll have to go to the US Cellular store).

me: trying not to be too frustrated, because life is life and it was an *awesome* night.

hi hi hi dreamwidth/livejournal world!

(so yeah, that means I have a dreamwidth account now, thank you [personal profile] fairestcat! I'm [personal profile] themeletor over there; find me if you like me (or drop your dw handle in comments) and I'll commence the commonplace friend-swapping!)

ummmmmm, so yanno usually I don't update a lot because I do not have a lot going on in my life! but this past week -- this past week has been kind of ridic and pretty awesome! and I'm sure everybody wants a flaily follow-up on my cryptic glee-post, yeah? yeah. (actually I don't know if you do! but you know what, I do not really care! because GLEE!)

(here, have some more exclamation points: !!!!!!!!!!! that's 11. that should last a couple minutes.)

my week! my life! so awesome! (squigglypoints: dw, wiscon, food, bnd, girl; possibly in that order) )

work now. don't forget! dreamwidth handles! let's do this shit!

I just got home from a really freaking cool two-day conference/forum on bioethics and sustainability. some truly wicked panel discussions, a handful of solidly mind-blowing presentations, and the opportunity to pick some of the top brains in the sustainability/worldchanging arena. \o/

more on that later, though, because OH MY GOD EXHAUSTED.

Talon the Falcon is visiting Outpost tomorrow!

ETA: !!!!! vote on Threadless: Mac Man! I would embed the silly little graphic but that would spoil the brilliant surprise! MY SISTER MADE IT; SHE IS A GENIUS Y/Y.

HAPPY EARTH DAY!!!!!!!

here, have a green (and brown) delicious Earth Day soup recipe!

basically a variation on everybody's favorite potato and kale soup (caldo verde). not as good as [livejournal.com profile] fairestcat's (or, what I've heard about Cat's), but pretty freaking wicked and incidentally 100% vegan. omnomnom. try it! (btw, lentils aside (because they were free) this HUGE POT OF SOUP cost me a whopping $6.50. can you say frugal?)

recipe! )

also, TOMORROW IS EARTH DAY! KICK OFF YOUR SHOES! PLANT A TREE! I HAVE THE WHOLE DAY OFF; IT IS GOING TO BE SO AWESOME!!!

part 2 of the 'clockwork cookies' project!

fondant is still a bitch, but we seem to have an accord. sort of. )

ahaha, yeah, it took me all afternoon to complete 4 cookies. I'm going to have to pick up the pace! (BUT THEY LOOK REALLY AWESOME :O)
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (potc: bullshit!)
shit, fondant is a motherfucking sonuvabitch.

'clockwork cookies' decoration test run - fondant only )

hopefully I can get these under control and get the rest of my shit together in time for them to be a contribution to the bakesale at wiscon.

though I may kill myself before I finish that final batch. this is fucking finicky work.

*(yes, I linked to a youtube of Pete's line in Twin Peaks. every time I say the phrase "wrapped in plastic" it's still what sticks in my head. she's deeaad. wraaapped in plaastic.)

[ETA: hey success! properly bonded and with just a little bit of time to set, the entire faux-clockwork shenanigan can be carefully lifted and moved! this means I will not have to build it all on top of each cookie. \o/!!!]
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (Supernatural: Dean w/ nuts)
happy Zombie Jesus Day to all those who celebrate -

I am off now to work a double at the restaurant. but there will be ZOMBIE MOVIES when I get home!
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (yay!)
fuck yeah i just effectively refloored most of my van with the aid of a boxcutter knife, duct tape, and a stripey indoor/outdoor tablecloth*.

because, no doubt, i am a BAD-ASS MOTHERFUCKER.

shit, what time do i have to be up tomorrow to get ready for the chicago drive & the concert? shut up, no way. *sigh*

*and a shitload of cursing when i put the seats back in. those things are supposed to be EASY to deal with? fuck you, toyota.
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (panic!: ryan's legs)
so, I am sort of mucking around in an android-fantasy-slash-cyberpunk-slash-something-else (slash bandom) AU, uh. and it's a little bit epically huge in my brain, surrounding politics and love and gender theory and queer theory and "human" nature and um. did I mention the robots? so anyway.

while I do not imagine this will ever exit my head in a fully cohesive, sculpted story (because that would be, like, novel-length and while loving my brain I also recognize that it has simply not been wired for that sort of extended attention span), I will hopefully be throwing down some chunks o' 'verse in the kinda-near future, and I would like those to be as accurate and well-considered as possible.

my [re]reading/[re]viewing list includes: Asimov, early 80's cyberpunk, The Cyborg Manifesto (which I think/reallyhope I still have in a binder somewhere?), and also some movies. to be fair I only started constructing said list last night. but the important part of this post is, hi flist! what would you add?

[ps - miscellany/ohai uncanny valley!: while nosing around I also hit these videos of the HRP-4C Gynoid (fashion fembot) and the ever-exciting (while also a bit unsettling) CB2 Child Robot. iiiifff you haven't seen these, they are pretty freaking mindblowing. check it.]

[pps - fuck you very much, [livejournal.com profile] iceyrica.]
