goddammit I FINISHED VIDDING THAT, so why is it still in my head? bleurgh.

called work. they said they'd call me if someone ditched and they could find hours for me... damn. but I have the credit card app here for filling out, which is good. not that I'm going to use a credit card and get myself into debt with it &c -- it's a secured credit card, and also I'm not going to use it, really, at all, and it's mostly just to have a line of credit so I can do the whole student loan thing more severely.

ANYWAY. today I am not only going to finish writing the kittenfic, but also .:: points at dvd stack ::. WATCH PIRATES. because I was retarded and left it at home TWICE (once in August, once in October), and now I have it and really need to watch it. and I found my Lost Disc!!! which had been seriously and ironically lost. ...bedrooms will do that, you know. now it's Batman Begins that I've lost. GO ME! *faceplant*

and hopefully I'll get some book-reading done. and some household stuff to make up for the lack of hotel hours because I do feel like shit about that. and... a nap.

okay! sounds like a plan!

Another meme survey quiz thing! Hey, I don't do them often, so you know it's gotta be good. Ish.

23 List

1: Grab the book nearest to you, turn to page 18, find line 4. Write down Type what it says:
"Miles sighed envy of his host. Administrator Vorsoisson[...]" [technically line 5, but line 4 was less fun.]

2: Stretch your left arm out as far as you can. What do you touch first?
The wall, painted like a savannah. With palm trees. And coconuts.

3: What is the last thing you watched on TV?
Smallvi-- NO, HOUSE! Forgot about that.

4: WITHOUT LOOKING, guess what the time is:
10:30

5: Now look at the clock; what is the actual time?having thoroughly given up on bolding, the answer and the rest of the questions: )

Naptime Now.
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (butterflies!)
So far today I've:

-woken up.
-eaten a grilled cheese sandwich.
-did I go out today? I don't remember.
-prepared a tray of ovenish appetizers for the boys (Pidge and Da).
-readied a turkey to go in the oven.
-put turkey in oven.
-managed turkey in oven.
(we like this fixed oven development!)
-attempted a nap.
-jumped up out of said nap just as I was nodding off to bash out 100 words or so of Pygmalion.
-and now I've just been informed I'm starting to turn blue.

WTF?
OK.

VID-itude!

themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (stoned)
Some time around early December/late OctoberNOVEMBER, I was lying in bed staring up at the ceiling thinking nothing in particular when this idea hit me:

"I SHOULD VID TO BJORK!"

...apparently for sheer merit of COMPLETE INSANITY. Mel smokes the good crack, she does.

So then, you know, I shared this with [livejournal.com profile] phurie_dae, who had to enable me, and send me these Bjork mp3s, and be all supportive and helpful and beautifully nitpicky and GOD DAMN, I DID IT (eventually and with much wailing and gnashing of teeth). There's something Most Wrong with my head. .::falls right over::.

"Emotional Landscapes" - Batman Begins footage to Joga by Bjork, with incredible thanks to [livejournal.com profile] phurie_dae for keeping me from killing myself, WMM, or both, and also to [livejournal.com profile] tiggothy and [livejournal.com profile] shrieking_ell for being somewhat-willing victims <3.

(Since I didn't quite feel like abusing [livejournal.com profile] drbillbongo's bandwidth (this sucker's 34MB), that's a YSI link up there, and just let me know when it craps out. Or if you want a more manageable filesize, because I can do that, too.)

I want to thank everyone who's sent me Christmas snail-mail, which, I'm not going to name names, because you know who you are. I'm more grateful than I could ever possibly say; you've made this less-than-easy holiday very special. I mean that.

Our oven is fixed as of this afternoon; I'm going to be starting the baking tomorrow.

And last of all, welcome aboard to [livejournal.com profile] nataku_chan!

and that is all.
carry on.
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (coffee)
I'm a little dazed, but that's nothing new. Somehow wound up with presents (mercifully slight ones) despite my late November request that they all be returned -- most were bought on super-duper clearance (see $3.00 Batman tee) and therefore couldn't be. Returned, that is.

Christmas Eve party last night was probably one of the best we've had; the kids (who took a separate car so we could leave early if Vivs or Pidge started to get cranky) actually wound up staying a couple hours after the parents left (mum's eye was being a bitch). We (the nuclear family: me, Pidge, Vivs, and the parents) have a history of sort of being the outsiders at these family affairs, but recently things have been changing. Some compromises and reaching out from both sides. It's good.

There's a whole score of ridiculous and very amusing stuff that I've missed while being away from this brood and I think I'll just keep to myself, and. Merry Christmas.

I still have so much to do.
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (xmas bash)
our one christmas present:
mum's eye is doing much better! yay!

now I watch (LimeWired) cartoons / play MarioParty with the kid / write either of two Christmas fics or Pygmalion, while mum and da serve at the EMT dinner until 4ish. should also do problem-solving for an ovenless Christmas dinner.

happy holidays!
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (Default)
I don't mean to take you all down with me, I mostly want to let you know why all christmas doohickeys will be delayed--

our oven's broken, and the tree took my mom's eye out (well, not out out, it's still in her head, but apparently pretty brutally scratched up. I haven't had the guts to look, and I don't think I will). so I'll be helping her out a lot.

In other news, it's Christmas Eve!

I feel... quite awful. sore throat, headache, and I think I have a minor fever. travel really takes a lot out of me, health-wise. last night was rather dramatic despite my best efforts, I really have to get in touch with the hotel, and locked-up-hiding-in-my-room(-that-is-actually-my-mother's-office) is working very well so far.

I should toss down some small bits of writing. and/or finish the vid.

all I want for Christmas is to take Pidge back to school with me.
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (bring on the men)
Da currently fiddling with my laptop.
Quick briefing of the day:

1-My family's on drugs, lots, and it's pretty awesome. When it doesn't suck.

2-Narnia was entirely perfect, in every way, except possibly Aslan's voice (wtf how can that be??) and Jadis' not-quite-glam-ness, but I'm heading downstairs to watch the BBC VHS in a few minutes anyway so I'll let you know after that. I want to take Lucy home with me, and that soundtrack WILL BE MINE.

3-My sister and I ARE SUCH BIG WIMPS. We started bawling with Aslan's shadow on the wall of Lu and Susan's tent, and didn't stop... probably until we'd had a good joyous cry at his return. AND IT'S NOT LIKE WE DON'T KNOW THE STORY BETTER THAN, LIKE, OUR OWN NAMES. We're just woobies. Big, stupid woobies.

4-POTC TRAILER OMFG Y HELO THAR SCRUFFY.

and also,
5-HAS ANYONE ELSE HEARD ABOUT THIS TRISTAN UND ISOLDE MOVIE??!? Imma look it up later.

...I want to go watch Narnia again.
eee!

[ETA: RUPERT EVERETT WAS THE MOST AWESOME FOX. kthx.]

So I...

my shoulders hurt. so cramped. from hauling luggage and hauling ass. and my father's insane and I should have requested a briefing on the new Family Dynamics Code before trying to defuse him, but... I didn't. currently on my mother's computer, because my father won't let my laptop on the network and I'm not sure when he'll finally be willing to. I may be heading to the library and feeding off their wi-fi every so often, however inconvenient that may be.

so no, mum's not the crazy one this time. at least, not with me... but I haven't let myself talk seriously with her so it's easier. and now that I've got that venting out of the way--

Pidge and I spent the afternoon watching Return of the Joker (thank you so much [livejournal.com profile] obi_wansgirl), and I realized/considered a lot of things that are probably going to get me back into writing "Pygmalion" so that's very good. In fact it's looking like, without consistent internets, I'm going to have a nice amount of writing time so yay. and also vidding (I'm hoping to get that done soon like tonight or tomorrow). and iconning, which I shall be doing busily and constantly and multitaskishly. though people with non-holiday requests will probably not get their icons before the 25.

cookies, by the way, will not be going out before christmas and I didn't realize until now that I might want to tell people this. it's not in the way my mind works for me to pin christmas gifts or christmas anything down to a deadline.

my flist is at skip=something awful, so ehm. I'll be playing catchup for a while.

and I hurt.
this family thing is not easy.

if anyone wants to get in touch with me, phone or text message please. it's in my userinfo.

much love,
Mel

no, I will not watch Frasier. I will go to bed. I NEED the SLEEP.

leave love,

I probably do.

MEL, you are a LOSER with NO LEARNING CURVE *headdesk*
themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (bad mother)
I...

my mother just told me she pulled all-nighters in graduate school.
I mean, if you know my mother, which you don't, but ok, her big college story is "I got a C in PoliSci and almost had a breakdown." she's really... intense about college. not so much grade school, but college -- definitely. and it's one of those things that's been freaking me out. because the last thing I want is to go home for winter, and be all happy-enough with my grades, knowing the rough spots I worked through &c, and face her ... well, not quite disappointment, but that sort of acceptance-because-she-can't-do-anything-else (me, my mother, my schooling: the great Triangle of Fuckedupitude).

but tonight on the phone she asked me, "so how's your last final paper coming?" and I told her honestly, I only had the outline done, and she laughed (as in amiably) and comiserated about all-nighters (which, by the way, this is not, but that's not the point).

so yeah, I'm pretty floored. since when was my mother human?

I Promise:

themeletor: close-up of a cupcake in the grass against a blue sky (batman)
this is a promise I'm making to myself that I will put together a vid just for the Little Dude (a.k.a. wee!Bruce from Batman Begins). hopefully, being assured of this, I will now be able to go back and not keep smooshing inordinate amounts of Little Dude footage into the Bjorkvid, excepting where they are necessary and/or fitting. because there is a certain point at which it just begins to look silly.

right then.
